No way that's a GTA. What's that crap under the fender badges? and the black old-style body moldings give it away too. Someone's tried very hard to make this a GTA clone.

Some other things to note:
under the pictured GTA emblem there is an extra pin stripe that the emblem appears to be upt over top.
THe speedometer has either a crack or a scratch in the lens in the pic,
The Black door bump guards are Black, should be body color.
He states it has 38,000 Original miles, but the speedo clearly shows 28,053?
He states only 700 cars with the 5 Speeed - its 708, we will give him that one, although the 708 figure is for Trans Am AND GTA...
it would have been nice if the car was clean.

Actually the mouldings are the correct type, BUT they are not the correct color.

The crank windows and abundance of delete panels on the dash prove this was a regular 305 TPI/5 speed Trans Am that someone spent some money on to look like a GTA. I also thought that the GTA required the UT4 touch control radio, all power goodies, etc. Hmmm....
This car seems to be missing some of that. Thread Starter

Someone went through a lot of trouble and expense to make a clone if that's what this is...steering wheel, glove pouch, emblems, seats, wheels. I'm sure all that stuff wasn't cheap.

The exterior looks pretty hammered to me for a 28k mile car.

Look at the shifter ****,, Unless the GtA's were different from the camaros that shifter **** is from year one,(I have one, its listed on year one as the original **** for camaros) also the leather should be slightly worn, my car had 36k on it and the leather on the **** was tired.

Everything everyone has mentioned that make this car a "fake" were optional items that didn't have to be ordered. So this car could be legit, and I'd bet that it is.
This car could've been ordered as a low-cost, "no-frills" GTA, with a credit for the 305, no cost, actually a credit, for the manual tranny, no power options, no floor mats, no body side moldings and with only the base stereo system. So whoever spec'd it and ordered it, dealer or customer, probably knew exactly what he was doing.
Power options were deletable from the option packages in 1987. I know this because I deleted the power door locks from my Formula when I ordered it.
Body side moldings were also optional. Those might've been added by the dealer at someone's request, so they'd likely have been black instead of body color.
And the base stereo system could've been ordered just so the car had all the provisions. I did that on my '83 Z28 when I ordered it because I already had a Delco EQ/Cassette for the car.
As for that weird little pin stripe, dealers/people do things like this sometimes for attraction/appearance purposes.
So the only thing that's BS is the claim that the engine is a 350, which we all know it isn't, based on the VIN and the 5-speed--if it's all original.
As for the body being banged-up, looks ok in the pix to me.

Yes, that is a factory leather shifter ****.

I have asked him to see the Option Codes from the console, as this is the only true way to determine if it is a true GTA. If this is a true low mileage car those codes should still be there......

Unlike 88-92, the 1987 GTA was not all options. You could get a stripped down GTA..., THere were a few standards, like the Ultima Seats, Gages, WS6 etc...

I'm betting it is a legitimate car. The 1987 GTAs were strippers if you just bought the GTA Option and nothing else. All the options were grouped into two different packages that were available for extra cost.
The UM7 AM/FM Stereo was standard for the GTA in 1987, and it could even be ordered with the UM5 radio delete option.
The floor mats were part of the GTA package, but the body side moldings were extra cost.
Interesting, because you don't see these "base" 1987 GTAs too often.

Even if it is legit, the fact that the body molding is black and there's _something_ running under the fender emblems is a big tip that something's off, something's not original.

There are quite a few things that indicate that it is in fact a gta such as the gold lettering drivers side headlight, where it says pontiac or the gold bird in the back between the taillights. The steering wheels is correct, they didnt offer the buttons til 88...The center wheel caps on the outside from 88 to 92 mostly had the ws6 black caps but in 87 they all had gold birds on the black caps such as this one, which is correct. The gta emblems on the fenders arent placed right, but the ones on the sail panels are...usually the cloners mess those up....its awful low miles to be repainted and the badges misplaced.
