Question about an 87 Camaro.
I found a 87 Camaro that the owner says has a 383 and a 5 speed and said it came like that from the factory. I dont know much about the engine options of 87 but did they ever produce a car with those options?

It's amazing what people will make up about their cars! No 383 in a third gen ever from GM, and nothing bigger than a 305 with a 5-speed

Wow people will say anything when trying to sell a thirdgen. A 383 cubic engine is a modification of a 350 engine. GM does not make a 383 small block engine. A 383 never came in any car let alone a Camaro. The only way to get a 383 is to make your own or buy a crate engine.

I dont know who had this car before him but apparently they put some time and money into an engine swap. Do yall think it is a good deal to get this car? I know it doesnt have a carberator, but from what i can see its rust free, minor body dents and scratches, leather seats, all the glass is good. He is wanting $2,500.00 for it, what do yall think?
Thanks, Jacob

No carb? does it even run??? or is it FI?
If it has a "Factory" carb then its only an LG4...
$2500??? if its really nice and an LG4, If it was a 350/A4 or LB9/M5 I would say 5K for a nice one right now.

So $2,500 sounds like a good price then. As far as the carb goes all it needs is one on it and it will run. Thanks for all the help guys any more suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated. Jacob

Borrow a carb and witness it run before paying any money. If it can't be started, it's little more than a roller.

He is a friend of my dads and i do think he is a little out there. But he lives in a house on 40+ acres and probably around 5 acres are all cars and trucks so he knows a little about cars. As far as the carb goes we got 3 or 4 laying out in the shop. But the way its looking i aint gonna be able to go down there for awhile on account of physical theropy. Is there any possible way of telling the engine type without having to disassemble it? Jacob

You can pull a number off the block and tell whether 305 or 350 (or other derivation) and a 400 crank would normally require an externally balanced damper but no guarantees.
Usually if the guy selling the car doesn't want to go the little bit extra (in this case an hour and a used carb? and he's probably got a few lying around?) to get a car running before selling there's probably a reason. But who knows?

It pretty much sucks he had cancer last year in his colon and he did kemo and got rid of all that. If the doctors would of done what they were suppose to do 4 years ago we wouldnt be going through this certainly not for the 2nd time. He walked round for 4 years holding his side and they did tests and found this bacteria that causes it and treated it but didnt follow up on it. In the 4 year period of them doing nothin the little spot they found grew into a baseball size tumor. But enough of that just somthing that gets me mad everytime i think of it. By any chance do any of yall live in Arkansas? Thanks for the prayers...God Bless Jacob
