Formy Hood Insulation: Question

Howdy gents. Question for you formy hood owners:

I've been going back and forth with Classic Industries becasue I think they are sending me the wrong replacement hood insulation. The part I need is simply the insulation that goes on the underside of an '84 TA "Power Bulge" hood.

When Classic shipped this to me the first time, the insulation arrived but it appeared to be backward. What i mean is that once the thing is installed (there is only one correct way on an asymmetrical hood) the felty side was facing the bottom side of the hood and the insulation side was facing the engine.

Is this right? Isn't the felty side supposed to face the engine and the fiber-y side supposed to be on the hood?

Anyway I complained to Classic, they agreed I was right, and decided to send part F261 inside of F260. Yesterday in the mail part F260 arrives AGAIN! If I have to ship this thing back to Classic again I will have spent what I paid for the part. I'm getting upset with Classic...

Can someone verify for me that the felty side of the insulation is supposed to sit on the engine as opposed to the insulation part? I am sick of having disintegrating insulation on the top of my engine.

That does help... helps with my envy.

That is the "moulded hood insulation" for the Formula/TA's. That one is easily twice the cost and shipping becuase it is one piece. Very nice though...

In any event, I called Classic and worked it out. They are sending other piece and reimbursing me for the shipping.

FWIW, they are out of the hood insulation fasteners.

You can get the hood insulation at a GM dealer for under $30, no shipping charges.

I think the smooth side goes to the engine and the rough side goes to the Hood...

Yeah... totally. If it was the other way, the insulation disintegrates on top of the engine. How do I know? Classic Industries messed up!

For the second time, Classic sent me the same part with the rough side facing the engine and for the second time I am RMA-ing the crap. Refund. Not doing it again with them. I told them that they should have someone look into the fact that they are manufacturing the piece in the WRONG WAY.

I'll call the dealer on Monday.

Problem with Classic Industries is I bought a Air Conditioning Ball from them for one of my old cars... not a big deal. I called them with the part number and the guy quoted back to me my order... Got the stuff and it was not the ball but the Bezel... I contacted them shipped it back, it was their mistake they had the part numbers backwards in the catalog, They shipped me the right part but charged me twice for shipping and plus what I had to pay to get the wrong part back to them....

Not a big deal, not sure if they have changed their practices but frustrating nonetheless

The only change I can tell you about is they credited me with the return shipping once (not twice).

I'd like to talk to the guy who markets the parts. Actually, that moron might be the wrong person to talk to. The person who talks to the actual manufacturer is the one who I blame personally. It's my guess they don't really know alot about our cars enough to speak to the problem I had. Oh well.
