I've thought about it a few times and I was wondering is it cosidered not cool to dress up the Chevy 305 in my Pontiac with a Chevy dress up kit? You know, air cleaner and valve covers and such that say Chevy or have a bow tie. It is a Chevy engine after all, but it just happened to come in a Pontiac. I've thought about getting that nice black Proform air cleaner that says Chevrolet on it with a bow tie wing nut. Would that be kind of lame in a Firebird?

I agree. go with it. To bad they don't make Pontiac dress up kits. Hawks and Summit have small block aluminum valve covers that have PONTIAC engraved in them in the Pontiac font. but they're racing application, and they don't have an oil filler hole.

IMHO,
Scew Chevy, I love my cars but I cant stand the imfamous puff of smoke on startup, The common rear main seal leak, the noisey rockers just to name a few. Then there is the fact that Pontiac was not alowed to use the 4.9 Turbo in 1982 because it would out perform the Chevies CFI... Back in 1964 Pontiac was told to call their 336 SB a 326 because the Chevrolet designer was upset that someone made a larger SB than his 327, the next year it was downsized to 326. Then in the 80's when Chevy whined and cried because the GN was faster than the vette... need I go on?
What I LOVE about the SBC, is parts are plentiful and there Cheep, there is no shortage of performance parts to say the least.
I feel better

I think if you have a pontiac car, stick with pontiac decorations! By the time the third gens came out the chevy engine was being called a corporate engine anyway. It is harder to find pontiac decorations but they will look better in the end. Think about it, do you see people that hop up ford SHO's putting yamaha emblems on their engine??

they do, or did, make chevy small block valve covers that say "Trans Am" on them. I think it was from Mr. Gasket.
however, it's your car so it's up to you what you want to do with it.
I wouldn't worry about the non pontiac engine brand so long as you don't stuff a honda engine there or something and then gloat about it.

You might be able to get an aluminum style covers and have them engraved, a nice CNC machine would be really kick.

does it have to say anything on it at all? you could just get universal stuff and it'll look just as good! i mean, anyone with half a brain is going to know it's a small block CHEVY anhow! and then you can't be accused of brand loyalty...or dis-loyalty by the pontiac guys...man those pontiac guys are nuts about some pontiac stuff!

that's a good point...but if somebody want's to get upity with me about my custome valve covers...they can go ahead and do it. Plain ones would just as good yes, and anybody who knows anything mechanicly is going to know it's a small block chevy...but I still think it would be too kick *** to have valve covers that would say "Trans Am"...or anything I want for that matter...I'm airbrushing "Bandit" on the side of my hood buldge where it wold normally say the engine size or something of the like, and I'm having floor mats with bandit embroidered on them...I might get the valve covers to say that...I'm gonna call the shop here in the next couple days. If I have something done I'll post pictures.

see, now that's different though. you've got a theme for the car and your sticking with it throughout the car. that my friend is classy. just make sure it's TASTEFUL!
anyhow, my valve covers are aluminum centerbolts made by moroso, so they say MOROSO on them...i like that way better they Chevrolet or a bowtie anyday of the week...i'd like to maybe get some eventually that say Walter Racecraft on them...

I know most people will stickers are for ricers, but what about getting som"Trans Am" leetering done? I admit, machined would be WAY cooler though. Need to dig out a pic of my custom machined "GTA Trans Am" throttle body cover.

That's awesome. it looks factory. I called my machine shop and they said that they wouldn't do it. so I called a few other CNC machine joints...most of them said no too. Finally I called actual metal engravers and they all said yes. now I just have to find the right one and pick up a new set of aluminum valve covers.

When you have an engraver do it make sure you do some test ones first on something other than your new covers... If they screw up its out of your pocket.. But if you do it on something else you can see if there is something that you don't like before you place it on the part.

I'm assuming the shops that said no, is because of "copyright infringement".
I wish I still worked at that CNC shop...I could whip out a few!

actually no...they said they wouldn't do it because they couldn't do it. lol. The machine shop I've been going to for the last 4 years said that they wished they could do it for me, and they said it was an awesome idea. but that they're machine couldn't do it....

Odd...Wouldn't take much to do. Just a good way to clmp the work material down, and low depth of machining. That would be MUCH simpler to make, and my solid billet aluminum, pinewood derby car.
The club I was in has an event at the end of every year. In the unlimited class, thre ONLY rule was the 1 lb weight limit. Wheel bearings, billet body, delrin tires...I gotta find it and take pics of it. The bottom/inside of the body was hollowed out to achieve the EXACT 1lb weight limit. We machined it, weighed it, machined some more, weighed it...Until we acheived 1 lb.
I always wanted build some solid billet aluminum valve covers, but I didn't wanna pony up the dough for the material, yet I could buy it at wholesale cost.
