1992 TA production number question

According to TGO for 92 there were 969 TAs produced, my Firebird Red Book calls for 851. Does anyone have any other info from other sources for the production numbers.

I am trying if at all possible to narrow down how many 92 TA L98 cars were built. I know GM didn't keep exact records so I'm just curious to see if anyone has any other info I may be able to use.

Thanks
Mark

Here is my information I gathered for my old web site TransAmGTA.com via the help of a very good member. These numbers are based on actual VIN #'s only, all of which I have! They are not based on "anyone's" published #'s.

1992 Firebirds: 27,561 (Euro, Canadian, and U.S. Models Included)

U.S. Only

Convertibles----
Firebird LH0: 454
Firebird L03: 805
Trans Am LB9: 679

HardTop/T-Top----
Firebird LH0: 13,621
Firebird L03: 7,648
Formula LB9: 306
Formula L98: 403
Trans Am LB9: 493
Trans Am L98: 334

The Trans Am numbers under HardTop/T-Top include GTA's, I have not
yet seperated those. Also, Firehawks and 1LE's are not seperated either.

Total U.S. 1992 Firebirds: 24,743
Total Euro and Canadian Firebirds: 2,818

Outstanding information, thank you sir. I knew there were people here that had some inside info.

So if I understand this correctly, you have all the VINs for the cars?
If so, with a lot of work through my GM connection it should be possible to narrow this down to an exact number by taking the VINs for those 334 L98 TAs hardtop/TTop, and running them through the dealer computer to get a list of their RPO codes, then breaking it down to CC1, B2L, int and ext color code RPOs and the rest.

So, if my understanding is correct, what would the possibility be of me being able to see those VINs (334) so I can decode them?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Correct. I too have friends at dealerships but upon questioning all of them said they could not provide me with that many printouts. If you have someone who is willing to do this, then great!

I propose a trade though See I really want to the know how many GTA's were made in 1992, also LB9 GTA's because that's what I have. If you can get printouts on the 334 L98s & 493 LB9s, then I will email you ALL of those VINs. Deal? I know it's allot but in doing this we are finding out EXACT production numbers on ALL/ANY option combination for all 1992 Trans Am's & GTA's (U.S. Only) !!!!!!!! I'll know how many GTA's my color had T-Tops, LB9, & grey leather for example! This could be HUGE if we can get RPO printouts on them...

Anyway, let me know if you can hook this up...

Car: 1989 Camaro-1LE
Engine: TPI(s)
Transmission: 5 speed (MM5, MK6)
Axle/Gears: 3.45, 3.73
FWIW ... there were 335 2FW87's imported into Canada in 1992. 6 of them were 1LE, and 5 of the 1LE were R7U. The 6th 1LE (non-R7U) was crushed.

Car: 1995 Formula; 1976 Trans Am

Trans Am L98: 334

Whenever I see that figure, I think about how I should stop parting out my '92 TA and just keep it as a long term project until I can bring it back to life. I mean, come on, these cars are going to have to become desireable at some point.

I agree. You got to figure, 334 made, how many are left? How many are left in any kind of decent shape? How often do you see one except for major shows like the TA Nats?

Car: 1992 Firebird
Engine: 305 TBI
Transmission: 700r4
There were 228 GTA's produced in 1992. gtasourcepage.com has all the breakdowns for color, interior, etc
----------
My car is 1 of only hundreds produced (breakdown to color, etc) There were very few W68 (gold rims, ground effects, etc) optioned Firebird with the 305 TBI. All 1992's are rare. I have owned mine for 9 years and have NEVER seen another exactly like it in person, (only online) including at STARS for several years.

There were 226 1992 GTA's sold in the US and 48 sold in Canada according to the GTA Source Page.

Correct! I had not been to the site in quite awhile, but knew it was something like that. Thanks for the correction. 226 or 228, either way they are all quite rare. Even 92 Birds like mine are rare, when broken down to options, etc. As I said in another forum, compare 27,000 TOTAL units made (T/A, Formula, GTA, etc.) to the T/A (JUST T/A) figures for 1979, which was 110,000!!

ShowNgo92, i have a 92 firebird w68 similiar to yours. w68, red, gold wheels grey interior etc. i believe you commented my car domain page. i was wondering if you could give me some information on the breakdown of options for our cars. im interested in seeing how many firebirds were built with the w68 option and the 305tbi, red, with gold wheels for instance.

Yes, I have seen your car online. I couldn't tell the interior color. As per other posts on here, there are no exact figures to tell the exact breakdown of our years (except GTA) and it can only be broken down so far. There were only a few thousand Firebirds produced with V8 and t-tops and the W68 option package, so using common sense and car knowledge you can then (if you want) break it down to colors and options, which will result in only hundreds of each color, with certain options. Total production for 1992 was 27,561, which is quite low compared to any other year.
