Re: 91 Formula??

TPIHearse..Im not sellin it..I wanna buy it ..The car really is mint,,and the miles are genuine..However I know that it is probably less desirable being its a 305 opposed to a 350..And it has a rear drum setup, and no t-tops..If anyone cant put an estimated value on it,,would it be fair to say its worth atleast 5k?Thanks..

Did you see some of those cars in that link?

the problem with a low mile thirdgen in the market is you've really got to want one because they seem to be asking what nice 4thgens with similar mileage are going for....whatever someone is willing to pay I guess.

Re: 91 Formula??

This is the one I was referring to..It only brought $4000 without meeting his reserve on Ebay in an auction that just ended yesterday..C'mon..Nobodys gonna pay anything near $8k for it with no options. It may only have 40k on it,,but it is not a desirable car to me being it doesnt have a 350 or t-tops,4wheel discs,ect..I also noticed one side of the car has the "Formula"decal,,and one side doesnt..I wonder why..I think the auction ending at what it did justifies what people think its worth..I hope he plans on keepin it forever..

Re: 91 Formula??

I use to have a white 350 that I loved but I sold it. I went from 5k to 3300 just to get rid of it so I could have some space back in my garage. I really love the white color though.

I also bought a 305, BUT with 8900 miles for 10k 4 years ago, everything was like new. He is pretty firm on that price and guess it won't go. I am a BIG Formula guy I sadly there is no market on these cars. Even the Firehawk guys know there is no market, look at #26. Andy

Re: 91 Formula??

Well its his car and his right to ask 100k if he wants..But I cant see putting a ridiculous price tag on something if you really want to sell it.I do feel putting it on Ebay with the huge amount of people that see really determine what its really worth..Book on that car with that mileage is $2950..I do understand that with some cars that "market value"has to be taken into consideration..However,,this car has no options, and no extras except the Firehawk wheels..The missing decal also makes me wonder..Oh well..I guess my 3rd gen dreams will go on hold for awhile..Anybody near NJ got a clean Formula 350 with t-tops for sale??

See you fellas again soon..Hopefully with a new Formula...

Re: 91 Formula??

They've been selling that car on Hawks for over 6 months. As a comparison, I almost bought a '88 Formy with no options and 12,000 miles a few years ago for $6500. Even that was a little above market I think.

Well, it was worth the money to me, but it was a little above market.
This was a LO3, hardtop, no power options at all, rear drums car. So the basest of the base. Not by any means a highly sought after car, but the miles and the 100% originality was worth the $$ to me. For your average buyer, not so much.

Re: 91 Formula??

The lack of performance options is the reason that car isn't selling. If it had a 350 and ttops, with the related options, it'd probably be worth what they're asking.

Re: 91 Formula??

From what I have seen the 350 cars and the 305 TPI M5 cars are usually around the same value... not always, but it tends to be close...

I would think anywhere between 5000 & 10,000 depending on the buyer and how badly the owner wants to sell it.

There was a red '92 Formula MINT on ebay about 2 years ago in California, owner wanted 10k for it, it was a very low milage 350 and in storage. It also had the black crossed laced rims. I wish I would see it again to buy, any leads out there? tHANKS! aNDY

It's not exactly stock and the price is bloated for a modified car. There are better examples out there.

Make it manual and I'll take it!

Quick question: Is this thread about the appreciating value of '91 Birds?

Re: 91 Formula??

The whole book value thing is a joke when looking at low mile cars. KBB suggests that an 87 IROC-Z with 14k miles, every option and in excellent condition is worth $3345. I don't think so! My car has scored 996 out of 1000 points at judged shows and I can sell it today for a whopping $3400.

Re: 91 Formula??

Tail lights are wrong, tail pipes are wrong, wheels are wrong, and it's at $6,000 reserve not met. The reserve is a big killer. And what else has been changed that you can't see easily? Why was anything changed on a 16,000 mile car? If he wants to sell it as a 'rare' car he needs to have the car just as it rolled off the showroom floor. My guess is he's just seeing if it'll sell for some stupid high price.

Scott, I will give you $3500 for your car right now... Its above Book value

The Book values are accurate for cars which are non collector. IE a mini Van, or some four door car. Cars like ours do not figure into the equasion, and the numbers are garbage at best.

Basically it appears the numbers KBB uses is the (original price - estimated annual depreciation) * inflation = value of your car. It has nothing to do with reality.

Re: 91 Formula??

The down side to this method is it forces older cars down in value, (thus why KBB does not offer values on cars older than 20 years. Edmunds only goes back to 1990, but you can find some numbers from 80 - 89.
NADA actually has information which is more accurate... IE an 87 Formula is around $5000, whereas KBB states $1500, Edmunds is about $2500...

Re: 91 Formula??

Thanks for the point out's Drew, but the rims are no big deal and the tail light was obvious, I just did not see the tail pipes. I am waiting for more photos from the seller of the complete car.

John, grewat post there also, did not know that, but always knew there was just no value on these cars as far as a bank is concerned.

Like I originally posted, I had a 350 car and it was just a nice damn car period. I sold it due to it's high mileage and I also had a low mileage 305. But man the standard 305 sucks and is weak as hell. I would like to buy this one and sell my other 305 with 42,000 miles and Hawk rims. Andy
