Found this under my carpet

What is this? I think it is the original factory worksheet that went along the assembly line.

Re: Found this under my carpet

I've found those before, but I don't know what they are either. They are some sort of build sheet but with less info, I guess. What seems interesting about yours is there's a code for an antenna, but it says no speakers.

Yep, that's a build sheet. I still haven't found mine yet, but I haven't pulled the carpet out yet either. They're pretty cool to have if you plan on keeping the car all original and want to get top dollar for it 20+ years from now.

Re: Found this under my carpet

It's some kind of "other" production line control document besides what we normally call the "build sheet". Maybe you could call it a "work order", "pick list", "packing list", or something like that.

I'd suspect that the "no spkrs" refers to optional speakers; that is, the radio code (missing, so it must have had whatever the standard base-model one was) put some kind of speakers in the car, but only the basic ones that came with that radio pkg.

Re: Found this under my carpet

RPO codes say radio delete, no speakers but your right, it has an antenna.

This is a base 86 sports coupe v6 auto.

So it is not a build sheet, but is it a line assembly control document. Strangely I found something very similar but corroded beyond recognition underneath carpeting behind the driver's seat rear bolts. It appears to have been glued to the sheet metal.

Re: Found this under my carpet

Is it still a radio delete car, or did someone put in a radio? I don't think I've ever seen one before.

Re: Found this under my carpet

If I understand correctly, in the 80s, aftermarket radios had left manufacture radios far behind. Many people back then who wanted "sports cars" usually ordered these without the radio or speakers (factory speakers were abysmal). Dealers many times would order a car without a radio and then put in an aftermarket radio. It wasn't uncommon. My mother bought a 1986 Chevy Silverado new and it had a crappy fm/am delco radio with the push button manual presets. Many others at this particular dealership (Bolin Ford/Chevy in Bristow, OK it's still there), didn't have factory radios or had aftermarket jobs.

Where does it say it's a radio delete (RPO UL5)? It doesn't mention anything about that. I think sofakingdom is on to something. Just because there's no radio code on this assembly document doesn't necessarily mean there's no radio. It may have also been just a basic radio package which would need to include the fixed antenna, RPO Y73 - which is mentioned.
The "NO SPKR" (singular, not spkrs), may have been reference to a standard speaker package for the radio. Nothing upgraded.

Hard to say for sure. Just ideas.

Re: Found this under my carpet

I found three different sheets like that during my tear down. I found one under the seat, one under the carpet and one in the rear render well. I never found a build sheet though

Re: Found this under my carpet

not much to it. Used to be a medium grey, now it is some funky white/purple beast from the 90s. Very basic 86 sports coupe model.

Here are some pics

Re: Found this under my carpet

It was definately used for the people on the line while making your car. Like a build sheet it was probably used as a tracer to indicate to the workers what equipment went on the car for a particular section of the production process. It may have been a supplimental Build sheet for particular portions of the build.
