Im one lost dude

Ok so I was looking in the paper for a nice parts car and came across this ad for a 86 z28, so I called there acting like a dumb *** like I dont know what an z28 is. The guy was telling me it has a 5 speed 305 tpi with 4 bolt main....4 bolt main??? he explained it was an HO and 5 speed so it was a 4 bolt main for its for high performance output I know it never exist in a third gen but was there ever one in history ever built?

ps the guy wanted 2k because its so rare (not running & bad tranny)

Re: Im one lost dude

They exist; but not in cars. Truck applications only.

It is CERTAINLY not the HO motor. That was a carbed 305, not TPI.

The kid's drivel is a bunch of typical used-car-seller monkey-spank. Kep looking, unless the car's body is just CHERRY. Let him continue to pleasure himself about his car's "rarity" without the benefit of your hard-earned cash.

Re: Im one lost dude

It is amazing how many sellers I ahve spoken to who claim to have an "HO" when they had the LO3, or LG4... after a few arguments I figured I would let them be dumb as they really have no clue to what they had... One guy after looking under the hood said "HO!" like it was some super rare option when it was only an LO3...

Re: Im one lost dude

In a sense, wouldnt the LO3 be a HO option motor compared to the standard v6 in the later RS/Firbird base models?

I know that they are using HO in a COMPLETELY different meaning, but in the technical sense, wouldn't it be?

Re: Im one lost dude

The "HO" was used in literature and as a badge from late 1983 thru 1985 and into part of 1986 (export to canada only apparently 22 of the 26 TA's went to the Players series for 1986) In some of the lit you will find that the "HO" is referenced to the TPI engine after 1986 or 1987...

For all intents and purposes the High Output label would define a V8 with more output than another V8 of the same displacement.
