Berlinetta 5-Speed / Titl Column ???
Ok Guys,.......
I am quite sure that I have owned, seen, & worked on more Digital Berlinetta's than anyone else - ever. I have a question based on my experience with these cars over the years.
Can ANYONE prove that an 84-86 "digital" Berlinetta, 5-speed, Tilt Column exists ???
The digital Berlinetta was only equiped with a T5 if it was a V6 car.... V8 ONLY got the 700R4. I Have never seen an automatics WITHOUT a tilt wheel,..... I have never seen a stick car WITH a tilt wheel. I do not know if ordering the optional 700R4 was the trigger for a Tilt column or not, just reporting what I have seen over the years.

This site says 5speeds were optinal for all 3 years in certian models of the V8 berlinetta. Nothing about the tilt steering.

Re: Berlinetta 5-Speed / Titl Column ???
Ya'........... That's my site.
The graphs represent the engines available ( left column ) with the value on the top row ( Coupe, 5 speed, POSI, Ect.. ) Since the Berlinetta and the tranny type are both on the top row - There's no way to compare the Berlinetta with a 5-speed based on those graphs. It's mainly used to see what cars, trannys, or gears each engine was available with.
Stick shift trannys are always "standard equipment" and the auto was the available option.
I KNOW that the 83 Berlinetta with V8 was allowed to be mated to a T5,........ but it was never allowed with a V8 during the "digital" years of 84-86.

It's in my old parts catalog. It shows specific to Berlinetta steering columns for M/T) with & without tilt, AND it notes that they fit both MB1 (V6) &
M39 (V

Re: Berlinetta 5-Speed / Titl Column ???
John,
I don't think my information will help you but here goes anyways. My first new car purchase was a 1983 Berlinetta. In retrospect, it had a rare combination of equipment:
1)
Exterior color was beige. This color was a very late model year addition and rare in 1983, far more common in 1984.
2)
Every Beige Berlinetta I've seen or heard of (1983 or 1984) had a tan interior, except mine. Mine came with a charcoal interior.
3)
305 LG4 with a 5-speed manual. The only year the V8 / manual transmission combo was available in a Berlinetta.
4)
It had the optional white sidewall
tires!!
And FYI, it was fully loaded, including tilt and cruise. No digital instrument cluster but a dual pointer 85-mph speedo! This is one of the very few pics I have of it when it was new.

Re: Berlinetta 5-Speed / Titl Column ???
I would think they exist because the V6 and V8 models would have used basically the same steering column whether it be a tilt or non-tilt version. The only difference would be the auto column would have the interlock linkage for the shifter(but then again this maybe the same to cut cost). But the production numbers would be very low because of the Berlinetta's luxury nature compared to the Z28.It maybe one of those situations of ordering a LG4 Berlinetta triggered the MX0 in '84-'86.John the salvage yard I deal with had a couple Berlinettas last time Iwas there.I'll have to swing by and check for you when I go to Charleston.
And Willie your '83 Berlinetta was the same code 59 as my '83 Z28(her build date is June '83).Your stating that code 59 was a late year addition explains why it's not in the '83 dealer brochure(not the one you could get in the showroom). And charcoal would be an uncommon interior color for one.Mine has the camel interior and the only other I've seen is brown.

The parts cat. also lists parts inside the column that are specifc to M39 Berlinetta w/tilt thru the 86 model year. They definitely thought they could, but whether or not they built any is another story!

84-85-86 'FS' W M/T, Tilt wheel ( N33) PN = 7842467
84-85 'FS' W M/T, Tilt wheel PN = 7845078
84-86 'FS' W Tilt Wheel PN = 7843393
There were others listed specific to the automatic cars as well. There would be a difference in the AUTO and Stick columns just as in the "regular" Camaros. The manual columns have the ignition key lock lever on them. As mentioned by COOLRAM - the auto version had the park lock cable piece as well. ( The ignition "box" on the middle of the column was also mounted in reverse from the auto to stick columns for some reason. )
The Digital Berlinetta manual tranny tilt column is show to exist - but I have never been able to locate one to verify that it was real. EVERY 5-speed Digital Berlinetta I have seen used a standard column. I've found them with and without the steering wheel mounted cruise set-up,....... but never with a tilt column. Since I've been after this proof for years I'm hoping that a member will see this post and will show me that this type of column actually exists somewhere ! Or at least an RPO tag showing T5 and N33 !
Willie -------> Been a LONG time since I've seen a pic of a Berlinetta with that kind of sparkle coming from the factory 14" wheels ! Biege paint - Charcoal interior - duel needle speedo - White walls !!! That really was "back-in-the-day" !!!
CoolRam ----> If you happen to get lucky and find one the next time your at that yard; I would LIVE to see a pic ! What the heck - get a price too !
Thanx for the input guys,.............. the search continues !!!

Re: Berlinetta 5-Speed / Titl Column ???
Tilt Steering was usually an option or Standard on just about any car. I would not know why they would not offer a berlinetta without the option as the car was the "Luxury" model...
