Need help with 1989 IROC-Z Convertible 5sp RPO

I went to see this 1989 IROC-Z Convertible 5sp and it didn't have any of these RPO on the sticker. (The VIN# matched the RPO sticker). Is there some where else I should look?

FZA1 IROC-Z Coupe Base Group 1 N/A
FZA2 IROC-Z Coupe Group 2 N/A $1,846.00
FZA3 IROC-Z Coupe Group 3 N/A $2,410.00
CZA1 IROC-Z Convertible Base Group 1 N/A
CZA2 IROC-Z Convertible Group 2 N/A $1,747.00
CZA3 IROC-Z Convertible Group 3

It did have a F in the 8th digit in VIN for 195hp, 3 in the 6th digit in VIN for convertible, LBP for 195hp, M39 for 5sp, 1F967 for convertible, DX3 for Decal and Stripe Delete, N96 for 16" rims, QLC for P245/50ZR16 tires and Z28 for handling package. The car looks like its been repainted and now has IROC-Z decal and Stripes.

I am wondering is it a true IROC-Z or a RS convertible with a 195hp engine, 16" rims and decals.

my money is that it's just an 89 Z28 Convertable. Make sure that SPID sticker that you were reading was the correct vin to the car. If the vin doesn't match then the sticker is useless. Otherwise if the RPO for IROC package isn't there, then it's not an IROC. Another thing you can check on the car...check to see if it's got a wonder bar ahead of the front sway bar. If it doesn't it's one more thing that magically isn't there. It's very simple to put decals on a car, it's harder to put the correct parts to make it a true "clone."

its just as simple to put a wonder bar though. Given its not an appearance mod but my 91 RS vert has a wonderbar that i just recently installed

Re: Need help with 1989 IROC-Z Convertible 5sp RPO

understood, my 88 firebird just got one from an 86 IROC, but i was just saying that it would be one more thing to check as it's about the only visual difference that i can think of. As i mentioned, if the Identification sticker's vin doesn't match the cars vin, then the sticker is useless. If it does match, and the RPOs for an IROC are a no show, then it's just a Z28 with an attempt on being an IROC clone. really no and's if's or but's about it.

I agree with gatorcola...i totally forgot that they stopped Z28s for a bit.

There were no Z28s in 1989; only RS & IROC-Z.

Suggest you check out Camarosourse. Here's a link that may be of assistance to you:

The codes you're listing (FZA1 ,FZA2, FZA3, CZA1, CZA2, CZA3) aren't RPO codes. The presence of Z28 and the fact it's an 89 tells you it's an Irocz since there were no Z28's without Iroc between 88-90.

Couldn't say it better myself. She's an IrocZ vert.
Also the fact that the 8th digit is an "F" for the LB9 engine and the SPID RPO list also has LB9 also proves it's an IrocZ. You could not get this engine in an RS.
