1987 SILVER Formula

Since my son wrecked our 88 formula a few months back,we have been searching for the right car to swap our drivetrain into.
how about this one? 87 Formula with ttops, power, auto and 126k.
body is in great shape...some paint fade but straight, been sitting about 1 1/2 years.
v8 Motor was blown,v6 swapped into it now,bad head.
I have never seen a silver one before. There is a yellow one sitting near me that the owner will not sale.Been sitting outside for years rotting away.

Re: 1987 SILVER Formula

The Silver was 1987 ONLY, like the yellow it was only available with the lower stripe too in 87...

I like Silver only second to Yellow

Re: 1987 SILVER Formula

Your one of the first that I know of... of course there are thousands of people on the boards and not all of them grace us on the History board.... I want to find one for my wife as she likes silver cars... I thought about actually changing the color slightly to the Silver Platinum that Chrysler used to use on their minivans.

Re: 1987 SILVER Formula

Are silver Trans Ams just as rare? I noticed one, probably 10 years ago at a local used car lot and inquired about it. I think it is an '86, it has the same rims as Logans Formula above. Owner of the lot said it was not for sale, it was his personal toy. All these years later, it is still there, sitting in the same spot, with "NOT FOR SALE" written on the windshield. I can't recall seeing another silver Trans Am other than that one. Let me know if you think its an oddity, I'll snap a pic of the car and the VIN. I'm not going to approach the owner again about getting inside the car and checking out the options.

Here's a "gun metal grey" '87 GTA's interior . . .

I'm not sure if this is of any help. It's not a Formula, but it's interesting to have a look.

Re: 1987 SILVER Formula

thats a nice gta, mine isnt a gta, my interior looks alot like that aside from the door panels and mine has pockets and for some reason my car is unmarked, it never said trans am on the front, no birds on the outside sail panels and the glove pocket only has a bird and theres a bird in the steering wheel and on the taillights, it doesnt say what it is anywhere except the title the side says 5.0 liter fi in red and thats it.

Those are actually the wrong seats for a GTA, all GTA's got the Ultima seats, those look like standard T/A seats.

Re: 1987 SILVER Formula

i had a chance to buy a silver HT 5 sp 87 formula from a fella close to me. it was all there minus the 5 speed they put into something else. also it was a F code and they just wanted $200 just to get it out of the way.
the interior need much work but everything was intact enough to restore. if i get a few things in order i may se if he still has it or if its avail from the next owner.

F code means its 305 TPI----does not mean roller cam.

Still flat tappet in 87. In 88 they went roller.

A silver 5 speed TPI Formula would be VERY rare. although not nessecarily worth as much

'86 was the first year for roller cams, 88 was first year for serpentine belt setups.

Re: 1987 SILVER Formula

My bad, '87 was the first year for the roller cam since it was officially the first year for the L98s, the first year for the one piece rms, first year for centerbolt valve covers and '88 All V8's engines received serpentine belt systems and the A/C compressors were moved to the passenger's side of the engine

Re: 1987 SILVER Formula

Ahhh... ok...
Mid 1986 one piece rear main seal introduced
1987 - Roller cam & Centerbolt heads
1988 - Serpintine Belt

1987 TPI is really easy to spot on a firebird, Its the ONLY year to get the 1985 - Cold air package and the First year to get the Centerbolt heads... 1985 & 1986 Appear to be the same as does 1988 & 1989 (1989 dropped the cold start injector but its hard to see anyways if you do not know what to look for) 1990 - 1992 all look about the same...
