So you want to know about your cars history...

Well If your like me and have only a vin it can be very frustrating if your trying to figure out your cars past. So i did some digging. I'm not sure if all of this works but We'll see in the weeks to come. If you go to Gm's website you'll find a labyrinth of links that you must follow to get to a page with phone numbers to call concerning your vehicles history.

If you would like to see these options for yourself go to GM's website>Contact us>the faq tab> Misc category> you can find:

"How do I obtain a build sheet?"<if your looking for Pontiacs it is the first number.(586-276-0693) If you are looking for Gm it is the second number you want.(586-276-0691) When you call you have options. I called the second number for my Camaro. If you like me then you want options 3-3 for Gm vehicles. You will be instructed to contact stacey at (734)421-0273(m-f 8am-6pm est.). You will also be told that if you want Gm to research your car it will cost a minimum of $50/hour and that you should mail a check or money order to:

gmhc Archives
6400 Center Drive
Sterling Hights MI 48312

I'm assuming That they would like you to include your VIN with your request.

I have not taken action yet but I am probably going to call stacey tomorrow and then send them 50 bucks if it looks like anything might happen.

"Where can i get production totals?" < I've e-mailed them and we'll see what happens but this looks semi-promising. (at least it's free right?)

So thats it. Just a little bit of information for you all. I hope this helps someone.

50 bucks an hour eh? I guess its better than nothing. There is a long thread here somewhere, someone who was helping us out at GM but that kinda went away and this is likely why. Gotta pay Stacy somehow!

I don't know. Maybe. I left stacey a message today and no reply yet. Also they haven't e-mailed me either. It's not usually this difficult to give a company money haha. We'll see what happens in the future days.

Yeah keep us informed. Would consider doing this myself, but would like to hear what all you get, and what kind of hassle it is to get.

Re: So you want to know about your cars history...

Alright heres the story guys. I got a call back from stacey and she gave me some vague info. You guys just want to bottom line so here goes.

HERE IS HOW TO GET YOUR CAR'S HISTORY INFORMATION:

GMHC archives will research your car's history for $70(research) + $50(packaging) + ~$14(tax) = 134.76

For a total of: $134.76
They will send you:
*All the options that came with your car
*When it was built
*Where is was sold
*Original exterior/interior colors
*The Mechanical Specs

About 2 weeks turn around.

Here's how to order:
Call: (734)421-0273 Ext:107
You will need your VIN and credit card # to order over the phone
-or-
You can order threw the mail with a check(134.76) and a Vin number on a note card. Call first to check with someone.
gmhc archives
6400 center drive
sterling hights MI, 48312

TO OBTAIN A WINDOW STICKER:
Go to Window-sticker.com
in some cases you will have to list all the options your car came with and in other cases all you'll need is to tell them your vin.

This costs $35 for the first sticker
$10 for the second and 3rd ect.
and $3 for each lamination
(I would imagine that there is a shipping charge too.)

Happy spending

all the options available? or the ones on "your" vehicles reciept?

mechanical specs? the fat tech book or just a bunch of crap you can find free/cheap Ex. haynes, here, wikipedia and such?

when it was built, day and time type thing?

where it was sold, original dealer's location, maybe name?

Original color? If anyone is only looking for original color, check the paint code, or any metal you can expose under carpet/headliner/ behind panels.

anyway, i'm not being an ***, just asking detailed questions and providing help for others.
Maybe I will haze stacy a bit, a lot of money, better be worth it and more.

For free you can still get a Restoration print out that is about 50 pages long that will give you any "spec" and RPO code that came for your year of vehicle. Just give them your vin. It's in the hyper link a couple of posts ago. The invoice that I got for $50.00 includes all options, where built, where sold, engine and transmission type, interior and exterior codes etc...

Try this link for your restoration packet. It's long, the thread's been running since 2002 I think. The information is still good. I received my packet 4/08.
