I was wondering if my 91 camaro RS was well optioned. It has the 16 inch Z-28 rims,T Tops,power windows, power door locks, power rear hatch, cruise control, body side mouldings, electric rear defogger, and a rear compartment cover. It has an lo3 in it. My interior is cloth reclining bucket seats with adjustable restraints and a split folding rear seat. Would this be considered a well optioned RS or did all 91s have these options?

 

O ya its well optioned all right. But they all have rear reclining seats. Mines a 92 25th anniversary and it doesnt have most of that stuff. Also all RS's had the groung effects. You scored a nice one.

 

Panzer, I was talking about the side mouldings on the center of the door. Not the ground EFX.

 

O sorry. but ya they all have those too. Even the generics have the side moldings.

 

not all RS's had v8's, just be happy its not a v6. get a nice sounding exhaust. i would go with 3" exhaust with headers. stock L03 exhaust is crappy. they are a fun car to own and not too bad on fuel for what it is. enjoy

 

I don't know panzer. I have a 25th anniversary and I have all of the options he has and some. I think my original owner tried to build a z28 but bought a RS. I do know my car was special oedered from the factory. I have leather seats , split rear seats, cruise, tilt, full power (except mirrors), z28 rims, hi rise spoiler, blisters, defoger, LO3 and z28 upgraded suspension.

 

86 Niterider......could you tell me what the upgraded z-28 suspension consist of? I also have the tilt wheel, was that standard?

 

I would say your ride has some nice options, but nothing rare or unusual.
- The LO3 was only available that year on the RS and well over half (53,040 out of 79,854) had it.

Out of all models made that year (100,838), this many had . . .
RPO AU3 - Power Door Locks - 66.3%
RPO A31 - Power Windows - 64.6%
RPO C49 - Rear Defog - 56.7%
RPO CC1 - T-Top - 38.5%
RPO A90 - Power Hatch - 65.7%
RPO B84 - Body Side Molding - 94.4%
Tilt Steering Column - 100%

While all had folding rear seats, have split folding may be a little more unique.
The 16" wheels is nice, 1991 being the first year for that RS option.

PS; do you still have the original SPID label? It's the sticker with all the RPO's on it. Usually found in the console or rear storage compartment. If the VIN on the sticker matches that on your ride, you may be able to find other items that might be a little more unusual.

 

I think he's referring to the F41 package, which is what came on mine. Too lazy to download the RPO decoder right now, but i believe it's the top dog suspension for that year. Stiffer springs/ struts from the Z28

here's a question that I've never really found a straight answer to -

My car is billed as an RS on the build sheet (ala rear fender when getting body work done) with the Z28 wheels/blisters/wing etc. BUT it has Z28 badges on the gfx and RS 25th anniversary on the dash. Did a past owner switch out the badges or was that original?

 

FE2 is the upgraded suspension.

Your car has been modified and is an RS that was built to look like a Z28 by the previous owner. Look in the rear storage compartment for the SPID label and look for Z28. if it isn't there, then the car is an RS. If it is there, then the previous owner swapped the dash badge. What engine do you have? The Z28 could only be had with the TPI engine in 92. If you have the L03, then it's an RS. Just a few ways to tell what you have.

 

Yeah mine has the L03 so I know its an RS but it has the F41 suspension and I believe has another code for the Z28 wing, I may have to find that build sheet and look again since it was a while ago that I checked the codes on here.

Its the outside badges that are Z28 too, inside is the correct RS badge.

 

It's an RS. There were no Z28/RS mixes, a previous owner added all of the Z28 stuff to the car.
