look at his website he has one engine shot. It has a t-ram and dual SLP CAI. I also wonder WHY he didnt post additional specs about the car, does it have race package, alum block, etc.

I'm sure it would help with the sale, but he did post a phone number, so I guess if your serious one would call direct and get the skinny...

Re: 92 Firehawk #20 is up for sale

Judging by the guys collection of cars I would say that its exactly what he says it is. Although I'm surprise that as a collector of "Late Model GM Performance cars" That he has never had a GNX in his collection 3 very beautiful Grand Nationals but no GNX's. Still the Firehawk is a fabulous thirdgen. Check out his web page and the very nice cars that have been in his stable.

Looks legit to me.

Any opinions on what the chances are that it goes for more than the original sticker?

Re: 92 Firehawk #20 is up for sale

I doubt that it will reach the $39,995 original sticker price. I suspect in todays market around $30K to $35K however...

Chances: about 1:3 that it will go above $39,995

The link to the website has all the pix you need... its legit... He posted the VIN, so you could technically contact SLP and ask them...

Well if a $18,000 IROC sold for $28,000 then Maybe I will eat my words and it will end around $50,000...

And my favorite quote "No third Gen will ever be worth anything, they just made too many of them!"

What's messed up is how much this one is going for vs that green one SLP has for sale forever that wouldn't move.

Proof people are idiots and just spend money blindly to show up the guy bidding against them.

The last time I knew that SLP was selling any 3rd Gen hawks was about 8 years ago with #1 & #26, both are now in collectors hands...

Dark Jade Metallic Green #26 was for sale at SLP back in 2000 or 2001. Just 5 years can make a world of difference in the price and desirability of a car.

The bids are real and I know of at least one guy willing to pay significantly over the current bid.....

For prospective.... there were 547 GNX's built and they are not nearly as special as the 25 Hawks (IMO.) A low mileage GNX has brought well over $100k. Fortunately for the GNX's there are 547 so they change hands regularly and people can gauge the market. Many of the Hawks that sell are private transfers.

(John, I believe we've had this debate before?)

Here's the Green #26 next to #6 and the IMSA car.

I offered him 30 and he said no last year when he stole it on eBay for 17K, just price gouging, does not give a dam about the car, just whoring it sadly. I was told it was way over my price, but I have to respect him as it is his and that is that. Just hope whoever gets it TAKES CARE OF IT PLEASE! Andrew

I stumbled across that auction, too. I didn't know anyone was talking about it though. My first thought was Wow... then realized that I like driving them too much to invest in something like this. I'd probably scratch it, burn off the brake pads, put cone marks on the bumpers, use up the clutch.... I just wouldn't be able to resist.

Nahhhh..... already have one and I've got my sights set on another car. I did however make him a very fair when he first purchased the car.

Besides, funds are tight (for most everyone in this economy.)

IMO if the car is bought for $40 or less it's a solid deal for somone to own. Seems that low mileage, desirable third gens are now bringing at or above their original window sticker?

Talking about Gains... I was offered 1.5x what I paid for my 1989 Formula 350 Convertible one year after I bought it. Looks like he is going to double his profit in that amount of time... Pretty sweet if you ask me.

Re: 92 Firehawk #20 is up for sale

What he paid for the car has absolutely no bearing on what it's worth. The original seller was obviously uninformed and Mario capitalized on the opportunity.

About three years ago a guy bought a rust free 71 340/4 speed Cuda for $500 bucks. The day he brought it home he offered the car to me for $6,000. I didn't like the fact that he was going to make $5,500 profit and walked on the deal. I was an idiot. Two weeks later he sold the car for $20,000. FWIW, I've heard the car has a new paint job so it's now probably worth $40 to $50k.

For many #20 will be "the one that got away." I contend that even though the price has doubled it's still a great deal for a long term collector who appreciates the car for what it is.

Heck, there's only 25 to choose from and there's more than 25 people who would like to have one.

I'll get off the soap box now......

Everytime I read about someone who buys a car just for an investment I want to punch them for taking the car out of the hands of someone way more deserving who would at least enjoy the car for it's intended purpose and driving up the price on the rest of them.
This dbag is no exception.

The owner of the car can do whatever they want with it. It is theirs. You don't have to like it, but you have to accept the fact that it isn't yours and it may not be treated the way you want.

I agree with Scott... Some of us drive our cars and others we collect them. I am fortunate enough to have one of each.... My Yellow Formula I am much more likely to Drive as it has 110,000+ miles... My Formula 350 Convertible in my opinion is worth to me its weight in Gold, I love the car, its rare, it is fun and I really do not drive it enough... But it only has 36,000 miles on it...

Re: 92 Firehawk #20 is up for sale

Okay, I am in the middle on this. I do believe in driving it, but not like the only car to have and put 25k a year on it. My neighbor bought his 2nd Z06 and believes in driving it as he said that's why he paid for it, to enjoy.

On the storing thing, parts rot and need to be replaced no matter if it has 130k or 2k on a 17 year old car. When I bought my low mileage car from a collector, it was like new and low miles, but as soon as we started driving it one thing after another started to brake down or needed replacement.

I bought my current Firebird with 8900 miles back in 2002. Sadly, we lost 1 of our cars due to a wreck and only had 2 left and sadly it became a daily driver. Last September it had 46k miles and I hated to put that many, but I lost my job back then and to this day only put on just over 1k in 9 months.

I agree, some people get hung up what the seller paid for the car and not what the car itself is worth. I know some of my cars came from people who picked the cars up for very little knowing that I would buy it from them for a better price. As long as the car is worth what they are asking I could care less what they paid for it.

Re: 92 Firehawk #20 is up for sale

As a case in point, The guy that I bought my Vert from paid $3000 less than what I paid him two years later... and he put 10K miles on it... I really don't care as I know I still got a pretty good deal, Espeically since its exactly what I wanted...

Funny thing is both of my cars I know the previous owners name first and last... Heck I forget peoples names I see weekly...

Well... The auction finally ended at $34,100.00, I guess my initial guestimates of $30K to $35K were right

John, if you'll look at the top of the auction it was ended early.

He sold it for a pretty good chunk......

From what I understand it was a price significantly higher than the last bid on the auction.

I have had 30 Trans Ams and I have never posted a car for sale and not had the haters pop up and spew all over everything. Yes I got a deal. Yes the dealer didnt know what they had. I spend time looking to buy everyday. Did I say everyday? I still have a 10 hour a day job as an Air Traffic Operations Manager with the FAA and run a monavie business on the side. Should I apologize because I work my butt off, give away alot of my money and am blessed in return? I am sorry I won't. I love these cars. Its my love for them that keeps me looking, and buying and selling. If I would not sell them I wouldn't be where I am now. I know its being willing to sale them that keeps me driving a new one every few months. Since I sold it I can go get something else I havent had. I still lack a 20th TTA. Its coming soon. I swore to the buyer who has a heck of alot of money than I that I would not disclose what I sold it for or where it went. I will honor that and there many reasons why in my money market account. If you find one drive it or not it doesnt matter. They are fun to drive and show. I would have liked to have sold it to a member of a forum or friend but I am sorry they just didnt have what I believed it was worth. I actually slowed down alot after buying this car because my Monavie business was taking off. Now that things are getting more stable I am in the hunt again.

Looking for a low mileage 20th or Competition 92 Hawk.
If I had a lot of money I would have paid well over the last bid. but I don’t and that makes me sad I want a 92 Firehawk bad, Maybe someday

Re: 92 Firehawk #20 is up for sale

I did not realize that the car sold for more than on the Auction... I guess being wrong on my behalf means that the value of these cars are going WAY up faster than expected...

I should have bought #1 a few years back... Oh well...

I should have bought #2 that was local to me a few months back. I knew of the guy that had it but did not know it was him until a month ago when I met him at a car show. Wish I knew back when he sold it. Damn.
Mario, congrats on the good sale. A car is worth what it is worth to the buyer. And as rare as the Hawks are, they do need to bring in a good penny. More than a TTA or any low mileage car at all. For the ones like myself that are looking for a Hawk, we need to keep trying to find the same kinda deal that Mario got when he bought it. There is nothing wrong with making an investment and capitalizing on it.

Reference oil or anything else if you think its going to go up buy some oil stocks like PBR or OII like I did and your hedged. If it doesnt you'll be fine. You cant loose.
