Looking for front rocker panels...

well a few years ago either classic industries or Year One was selling only one side/ front fender rocker panel. They sold them primered black, ready to paint and install...I should of bought it awhile ago when i had the chance for now they don't even carry it anymore, nor does GM sell them. I realize that last year my left front spoiler section (it's the 3 piece design) was dangling and i realize that somehow the plastic holes broke off, this is where the bolts attach thur the spoiler and is retained by metal clips that rests on the rocker panel ...and unfortuantely you just cant fix up that area but have to replace the whole rocker panel section. Anywho, does anyone know where i can purchase both RF and LF reproduction or OEM rocker panels?

Re: Looking for front rocker panels...

Unfortunately no one makes these repro yet. I just went through this on my 92 car. I broke the same deflector holes on the LF. The RF for 91-92s is still available from GM, but the LF I found the last new one in the country from Hawks. You may want to check with them, but keep in mind, this piece was a pain in the *** to replace at least on the 91-92 cars, not sure how hard it is on the 89. If you can, I'd consider repairing it. That's what I ended up doing on the pass side of the 92 after replacing the drivers side and never wanting to do that again. Plus don't forget the paint match.
Also ebay had a bunch of used 89 style pieces back when I was looking for mine.

Re: Looking for front rocker panels...

thanks buddy for the info.... my buddy Dave (NovakD) has a 1991 Base model maui blue firebird and i know what you mean about it being a pain to replace, remember looking under the vehicle when we had it on a lift and i was looking at that and wonder how GM came up with that design, it looked pretty complicated...luckily the 85-90 rocker panels are pretty easy to work with....I wish i could repair the broken area but it's not possible...the holes are missing and i don't really want to drill holes that would distort the appearance of the front valance area. However i'll keep looking on EBay and on hawks...

oh yeah when we'll see you and one of your birds out at the car shows? I went to Lemont the past couple of times and it's been a blast out there...thinking on going there again this wensday.....

Yeah I know I've been lacking at many car shows this year, been so busy with work. The TA has only been to ThirdGen Fest and no local shows at all. It has become a reservist, one weekend a month one week a year! Currently getting the GTA ready for the TA Nats, but we usually hang out in the NW burbs Fri and Sat nights if you ever make it up here let me know we'll meet up.

That's strange, when I was looking for the same pieces for my 91 all I could find were the 85-90 pieces...several places had the repros. I gave up the search for the pieces for my car and finally I just made some new ones from scratch. I bumped a curb with the passenger side piece a couple of months ago and it bent it up a little. I just took it off, bent it back to shape, and put it back on.

Yeah I remember that thread, I was trying to convince you to mass produce those for us all. That is an awesome job you did.
