Black Headlight Pockets, How was it done?
On Iroc's, how was the headlight pockets done at the factory? Did they use a template or did they have someone mask them, since the bumper cover was painted before the headlight pockets were done. What was the material they used - paint, decal or something else. If it is paint, what kind of paint is it and how did they keep from getting black overspray on the bumper cover. What did you guys do when you repainted your car and redid the headlight pockets.

Yeah, the dividing line looks perfect on mine. The two colors also blend into each other perfectly without a ridge and it's exactly on the edge. I believe it's a satin finish too, correct?

Great question, I need to know if the shade of black for the headlight area was satin. I also need to repaint my hood louvers, did this shade match the headlight area? If not what shade were they done in?

I remember the louvers were a satin black.

You can get the factory match paint for the louvers through year one. Thats where I got the paint to redo my rear louvers. Should be the same for the hood louvers. I was thinking about the headlight pockets. Maybe the pockets were painted black before the bumper cover was painted. Still would need to mask the area or used a template(for speed on the production line) to get the nice straight blended in lines with no overspray. Still open to ideas.

The shade of black when new used for the headlight recesses is technically semi-gloss.

I inquired to GM re: the various trim parts on my GTA (i.e. wiper blade arms, rear window trim, etc.). Possibly the headlight pocket trim on a Camaro is the same. After I submitted my VIN, GM came back with:
trim code: W20A-848 (Black - not a gloss or satin)
HTH.
