83 trans am replacement parts

I recently purchased a 1983 trans am. the plan is to restore it for now. it sat in a barn for 13 years. body is verry clean, but the interior nedd some major help.

i had a "buddy" doing some motor work on it to try to get it started. instead he unbolted everything on the front of the motor and lost all the bolts and brackets. is there somewhere i can find these?

also is there somewhere that all, or most the interior can be purchased? I'ld perfer OEM but will do any just to get it on the road.

I've had a lot of success in the past getting parts from Hawks Third Gen Parts... http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/

Re: 83 trans am replacement parts

Is it a regular 305? I have some brackets I might be able to part with...if you let me know what you are looking for exactly I can check my parts pile when I get home at the end of March. Most of the parts at the front seem to be interchangeable at least between 87 and 84 305s. Fuel pump bracket I don't think will work though.

Re: 83 trans am replacement parts

thank you red90 i'll look around there. maybe i can find something.

Thank you L695speed, I'm not sure if its a "regular" 305. i know its a EGR, 4bl. as for what brackets i'm trying to find some illistrations on the motor. i can't remember what brackets i'm missing. as of writing this i know i'm missing the altenator, and a/c pump brackets. i'll edit this post as i find out more.

I have AC and Alt. brackets that I know of but they are off a 87 305. When I get home for break in a couple weeks I can take pics and show you.

one good thing about the drive line and metal parts, they are fairly common or easy to restore, it the interior plastic that's a pain to find in good shape.

Re: 83 trans am replacement parts

just as a clarification, I think when L695speed said "regular 305" he was referrring to the LG4 engine (8th digit of VIN would be "H") as opposed to the 5.0 H.O. (High Output) L69 engine (8th digit of VIN would be "G").

Re: 83 trans am replacement parts

ok. looking at the vin the 8th digit is an I(or 1) the 7th is an H. so i'm guessing that it's a regular 305. still no luck on figuring out what brackets are missing. can't get a diagram to save my life.

Re: 83 trans am replacement parts

Sorry I totally forgot to take photos of the brackets I had and etc. I was busy trying to determine why my car was not starting, helping my brother with his 3800 SC swap in his Fiero and working on my Senior Thesis here on campus. We can try again after I graduate on May 24th. In the meantime....heres a few photos (the 305 brackets are identical except for a few things I found out by surprise, ie. smog pump bracket at the bottom of the engine), that might help you ID which ones you need. I'm much further along than the lower photos indicate. I can see what I have laying around my garage after I graduate, and take photos of them. There are diagrams in the service manual for the 84 I have (factory manual) I can see if I can get photos of those and send them to ya as well. Again I hope someone else helps you there because it will be the end of the month before I can get anything to you.

No problem. Don't give up on the car. The engine I have is a frankenstein but its close enough for reference. There are plenty of 305 V8s out there that you could pull the brackets off of. Just make sure you know what you have. I wish I could be of more help but the car is 1400 miles away . I might be able to help you ID what you have if you have any questions. Good Luck.
