Just Found Out Original NJ Owner

I have been removing, sanding and repainting my panels in my interior and i took off the one in the back between the headliner and hatch glass and found a treasure map of old reciepts for my car, including the name of the first (i'm third) owner of my car!

It was pretty cool to see the reciepts from 89-07, and I was wondering if this Joisey guy is on TGO, I forget the first name now but last name is Dye, guy from NJ. The kid I bought it from said he was from NJ, glad he wasn't pullin my chain.

If you are on here....thanks for 'hiding' years of receipts in the car, it was very nostalgic! But... lol no thanks for using screws where bolts go and vice versa, and it's a pain taking apart the engine with metric/american riddled throughout the whole engine bay haha

Has anyone ever come across something like this?

Re: Just Found Out Original NJ Owner

When i was taking apart my 83 T/A I keep finding money. First I buy the car then it starts paying for its own restoration! I must have found $4 or $5 in change. Enough to buy one gallon of gas! at the time.

Re: Just Found Out Original NJ Owner

I've also found money in mine along with parkway tokens and a few other things. Also I have reason to believe there might be another set of keys somewhere under the carpet, and also possibly a build sheet. Were some receipts but otherwise not much else. As for the metric/english bolts...thats fairly typical, 1/2 and 13 mm interchange as do 14mm and 9/16 sockets.

Re: Just Found Out Original NJ Owner

When I got my driver '84 T/A back in 1998 the insurance card from the previous owner was still in the dash map pocket. They still live at the same address but I'm not sure they would want to see what ten more Wisconsin winters have done to it.

On my '84 T/A parts car I found a 1986 vintage drivers license for some punk 20 year old kid inside the center console. It must have slipped in through the hand brake slot. I'm geussing he's the original owner as the car has almost no options and would have been affordable to someone just out of high school.

Re: Just Found Out Original NJ Owner

Nice guys. I dont really think they were hidden like on purpose in my car it looks more like he wanted to continually cushion that part of the car because it looks like it was holding it up on the ends (he could have just used 4 screws instead of two)

I found a bag of weed under one of the back seats. Bought the car from a 20-year-old.

Not sure if this is the reason here, but in NJ during the 80s, it was a common thing to hide something in the car with your name and address on it in case the car was stolen. NJ had 6 of the top 10 cities with the highest car theft rate in the country. The most common was to slide an old insurance card down the window and inside the door. When the cars were being chopped, door panels and side access panels weren't removed much so it was easy to determine your car if it was found by looking for your insurance card in the old hiding spot.

Yah, I also found change - three or four dollars worth, when I got my car home and began cleaning the interior. I also turned up a little tin with some shake and a few seeds in it, it had been wedged up under the driver's seat. Former Vegas/California car . . .

Tell me about it, in NY/NJ Thirds Gens got stolen routinely. They were the most stolen cars in the country year for year when they were new LOL.

I will never admit that I may have helped those numbers by joy riding in dealer cars after they closed. 1988 was a good year to drive the cars too.

Haha nice, hey at least they were JOY rides, in DEALER cars, not personal cars off the street sold to a chop shop...I still hear stories like that...once my dad's GNX was stolen and a year later we went to race his 67 Maro at Englishtown (two hours away)...there was his GNX lol

Re: Just Found Out Original NJ Owner

When I bought my first 3rd Gen (The yellow Formula in my Sig) There was a bag with a ton of information...

I have the Original Owners name, He purchased the car on 3-28-88 in IN, I have a second address in PA, which was dated 4-24-1989. I have his approximate birthday (Not year) as I have the PA Registration Card.

The bizarre thing is I have a CARFAX, it does not list the PA registration, but I have a PA registration with the VIN of my car. What makes this MORE Bizarre is the fact that the car ended up back in IN...

Basically what I have is the original Purchase date of 3-28-88 to Donald B, The title was issued on 4-15-88 in IN, Another Title issued on 4-24-1989 in PA to Donald B, and ANOTHER title issued on 1-20-1990 BACK in IN... THEN there was yet another Title issued in IN only a month later on 2-26-1990. With the titles so close together I suspect that there may have been a problem with the Title. He bought the 6/60 New car Warranty too back in 1988...

Then the title was issued to Chad L on 3-23-1995 with 90,744 Miles. Chad bought the car off of New Castle Ford Lincoln-Mercury, Inc in New Castle IN.
I bought the car off of Chad L in May of 1997 with 100,2?? Miles.

I actually showed Chad the car when I got it done back around 2000 or so. I have considered writing the original owner a letter and sending him a picture of the car as it is today.

How is that for a paper trail?

John
