hey all. i'm new to the 3rd gen world. 3 years into the repair buisness. i picked up a 91 z28, 350 tpi. i was hinted at by a guy i work with about possably being a 1le. from the information i'm gathering, i have all the options. however, it lookes like it had factory fog lights, someone told me a/c was not an option, and other information sorces tell me you could get one with a/c, but you get the smaller front brakes. it's the age old statment were if you ask 5 guys the same question, you will get 5 different answers. anyone know were i can get solid documentaion of what a 1le has. also, my rpo label is parcially illegable, and i'm trying to find out if it's possable to order a new one. any help offered would be greatly apritiated.

 

B4C was like a 1LE but it was made for the police, it could have a/c in it

you should be able to read your RPO sticker good enough to see 1LE or not on there, it should be one of the first ones on your RPO list

i agree you ask 5 guys you get 5 different anwsers, but really look hard at your RPO sticker it should be good enough to see something that looks like 1LE or not

 

there were no Z28 B4C cars so rule that out.

It's just a normal Z28

1LE Z28s had no AC or fog lights. No such thing as 1LE without the bigger front brakes. Those were the most important part of the package!

 

dang it your right the B4C was an RS.............

 

The tell tail sign of being a 1LE would be the large front brakes, they will roughly be the same size as the rears for 1989 - 1992.

If you have AC then no it is not a 1LE
All other options were basically available, I have seen Leather, Power Windows, Locks, T-tops (on a firebird), but none of them have had A/C unless it was a RS/B4C (police car)

thanks for the help. i looked at my rpo label and of the codes i could read, none of them were 1le. i feel a little better now knowing that i can make mods with feeling guilty. thanks guys

 

I have seen/read about 2-3 ligit 1LE birds with factory A/C and they wernt Hawks.. soo it could have happend!

 

Were they for the US or Canada? I think the Players cars may have had some extra availability for options as the Canadian EPA was not so controlled by lobbyists and crazy left tree hugers.

One of them I read about,still have the mag artical,was a 1LE 92 JY formula 5spd. I remember it cause they pointed out the fact it had 1LE and A/C !
It was a press car, sooooo who knws where its @ but I would like to have it..
I'll try to find it, scan it and Email it to you. Its in black and white print I think.
There used to be a 92 JY firebird vert around here.. Im still looking 4 that.

There is a JY T/A Vert that was at the T/A Nats last year...

His name is John, I forgot his last name...

 

The Canadian Players cars (1LE R7U) had pw, pdl, cruise, storage cover, defog, custom cloth, etc, but of course no a/c, they were identical except that they were either Z28 or TA, the dealer could only choose color.

Re 1LE with A/C, yes I recall a Formula tested by one magazine. As well, Dueck GM in Vancouver Canada had a '92 Z28 350 1LE AC on the floor when my friend purchased his R7U there.

Further, the TTA cars were all 1LE w A/C.

 

So were B4C Camaros and I think you could get A/C on the B4U Firebirds...

The thing is 1LE by itself on a regular Camaro, Formula or Trans Am. honestly it would not surprise me if you could have gotten A/C on a Formula but not a T/A or Camaro.
