Barrett-Jackson IROC-Z

I won tickets to the auction from the radio, and was surprised to see only one thirdgen...

Don't know. I would have to look at the list. We left as it was pulling into the auction building. The kids and wife were tired and burnt to a crisp

That rear end looks sharp however the spoiler needs to go.

Re: Barrett-Jackson IROC-Z

Interesting! Not surprised as no other 3rd gens on the block. Generally not a collectors car, yet anyway. Hopefully in another 10 years, that'll change? Our cars are not quite old enough yet, I guess?

Re: Barrett-Jackson IROC-Z

I started a thread about this one several threads down called "I believe we missed a third gen at B-J Palm Beach" There was another third gen at the auction. It was a 1992 Firebird Formula 1LE. That Firebird was also the first one produced in 1992. Because of all the hoopla on the boards about that car there was nothing mentioned about the Iroc Z Concept. I spotted it in a camera pan of the stagiing area soon as I saw it I started the thread to give the car attention because it was no ordinary IROC and it needed to be kept the way it was. The Firebird got all the attention but the IROC was missed. Thanks for the great photos though. The Firebird went for 38,300 I think. Bruce at Hawks Third Gen Parts got it.

Re: Barrett-Jackson IROC-Z

Yesterday was the last day (couldn't go Thurs/Fri because of work), the Formula may have already been gone

Lot of cool cars there, I'm slowly getting them hosted as we get ready for Easter dinner, but keep checking the photobucket folder....

driving lights look like the might be french-made
"cibie"units.

Re: Barrett-Jackson IROC-Z

wow, I think $28,600 is a steal for that car! It is very unique, has lots of one-off parts, and heavily influenced the direction taken by the very popular 91-92 ground effects and high-rise spoiler.

Re: Barrett-Jackson IROC-Z

The irony of this car is that it was all over the Detroit streets as a legal street car, when it was built. And now as stated by someone in the thread I started about this car, it was sold with a scrap title. So unless someone spends alot of money it will probably never see the street again. That alone is a shame because it seems like besides the age of the car it could easily be street legal and pass emissions.

The hatch doesn't open. So access to the cargo area is via the passenger area, like a early C3 Corvette. Another interesting feature of that car.

Re: Barrett-Jackson IROC-Z

Yeah, I was wondering about the hatch? I like the clean line of the spoiler w/ no breaks. A little too large for my tastes though. It's nice to see a third gen w/o all of the usual mods. What is under the hood????

I believe its a 350 with an automatic. I have reason to believe it might be a manual but I don't know. I would not go by GT4 because you can choose between an 4 speed auto or a 5 speed manual. Its a video game as well. I would have to say its a upgraded 350 backed by an auto unless GM stuffed a WC T5 behind it. (unlikely)

Re: Barrett-Jackson IROC-Z

if you look at the bottom of the hatch glass in the one picture, you can see two black bolt covers similar to what is used for the hinges on top. It appears to have a latch mounted so that the hatch glass can open by itself while the decklid is built into the rear quarter panels. You can also see the same type of cover on the side of the hatch glass near the bottom where the gas strut is likely mounted. This is pretty much identical to how a C4 hatch glass operates. So it does appear to open, just in a way that makes the rear storage space nearly unusable.
