Hi Keith and all the other 3rd gen fans . Just found this site and joined because like the rest of you I am fascinated by this Irocs history . As the original and current owner of an Red 85 Iroc LB9 car with around 10 000 miles on the odometer seeing one with 4 miles after all these years makes me drool . Keep up the great work .
One question Keith , does the A/C on the car still work ??

Well new unused rims might be a strech? Local Chevy Dealer do a search for the guy maybe some dealership has new old stock rims... One dealership in Kansas can't remeber the name had a cooling kit called out in a tech bulletin. They might be a possiblity. Keystone now offers restored rims. Maybe check on Parts.com it is a link that allows the ordinary guy to buy parts direct from dealers..

ircozman, you might want to read the entire thread. He has rims on the car that are almost new. He also posted pictures of the car with these rims. Also, did you misspell your screen name intentionally?
Re: 4.3 mile IROC-Z on eBay - UPDATE
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....num=445ZR7ZR45 This will give you a link to Tire Rack so you can at least see what the gatorbacks looked like that came on the cars in 1985. I have an 85 Iroc-Z that had this tire with the same exact tread shown in the photo although the size in the photo is not correct for car it is in fact the exact tread pattern and look. Also the tires were VR speed rated which is good up to 139mph, and the ZRs are rated at 140mph+. I don't know if Goodyear would consider making the original tire size considering how many people want them for restoration projects.
Sorry I goofed this is the right link.

Re: 4.3 mile IROC-Z on eBay - UPDATE
I am somewhat new to message boards and have a bit of a time navigating the threads. Yes I did misspell it on purpose. I made the mistake signing up for a yahoo account and it kind of stuck. Thought it was kind of funny when I made the mistake. I did a little research if people really like the gatorbacks I put in the link they are a direct fit optional 17" replacement for the P245/50VR16s that orginally came on the cars. One of the dilemmas of course is buying new rims for your car to fit the tires. The other dilemma I found with these tires though is that if you don't treat them very gingerly you won't get more than about 12,000 miles out of them. I once got 22,000 miles out of one set which was surprising.

Re: 4.3 mile IROC-Z on eBay - UPDATE
I can't believe that Keith put original wheels on this car!I was kinda growing fond of that d/s rear snow tire!LOL!
Truly amazing to see this thing coming back to life.I agree with many others though, and that is that the chin spoiler should be on the car.
As far as the tires?I agree with some folks(purists) that original tires would be nice but,I also agree with other things like the age of the tires for safety's sake alone.
And no,who would put 37k tires on a new car?

Found this thread in a search.. What an awesome story. I would go see it if you ever end up near the west coast with it. Hopefully the owner will let it see some shows.
My opinion is to keep the plastic on and spoiler off but I admit it would look better the other way round.
Seems like GM would be interested in how it held up all these years for research purposes.

Hello everyone!
Im very sorry for being away for so long, it has been a very busy last couple of months!!
Anyway, I have some REALLY bad official news that I think I should share with everyone. The owner of this 85 Iroc, has decided to part with this car and put it in the Kruse auto auction in Auburn September 2-8.
I really dont want to see this car go so soon after all of the work I have put into it, but Its his car, and he sign's my paycheck.
Anyway, I just thought I would share this info with everyone here in case any of you are interested in it. I see that I have some PM's to answer, and I will get to those as well today.
Again, Im very sorry to be away so long, its a long story, but there has just been so much happening in my life the last couple of months that I really dident have time to log on and update everyone on the cars status...
I will check back later today, or thursday to answer any questions any one has....Oh, and by the way, here is the link to the Kruse site, and the car.... http://www.kruse.com/auctions/detail...evrolet&PAGE=4
Take care everyone, and thank you all who took the time to help me with the restoration of this very "one of a kind" car....

Re: 4.3 mile IROC-Z on eBay - UPDATE
Not to post to be rude or anything, but why so much hype on this car? Yes it has basically 0 miles on it, but a freind of mine has a gorgeous 52k mile iroc and to me theres really no difference. My freinds car as well as many other "low" mileage examples I've seen are just as nice as this one, and to me, mileagae is just a number. You can have a car with 5 miles on it but then one with 65k could mechanically still run better and be more enjoyable to drive. I personally would not want to own a car with 4.3 miles on it because cars are meant to drive, not sit and collect dust. Plus, I can't imagine that the motor is very great after never running or being driven. Sitting for too long is what kills cars.
Oh well, just my .02 cents.

If it could be run & driven (i forget if it runs good or not) would only be a bonus. It is all about the cars place in history, not its functionality as a driveable car.

The "hype" is all about its survivorship, of basically still being a "brand new car" that never got used.

And as far as a "brand new" car, techically, you can make any car new again by restoring it. . .or at least as good as new or better.
I just can't believe this post has 7 pages of googling at someone elses car!

There is a difference between collectors and enthusiasts. This car should belong to a "collector" of rare and fine autos in a climate controlled showcase right along with other cars of it's caliber.

Yea I understand where your coming from to a point. It just doesn't do much for me. I would never pay the money for it because to me it's a yard trophy. Something you'll never drive or get to enjoy. It should go to a museum instead of some personal guy who's gonna let it sit some more. That would be a logical place for it.
You hate/disagree with it, but you still felt compelled enough to read & post!

This is also the first year of the IROC, and it's a brand new one at that. Very collectible, especially for someone that collects cars (or even just Camaros).

Re: 4.3 mile IROC-Z on eBay - UPDATE
Kruse is a bankrupt auction house. They have over 60 sellers they have not paid. That's Scary!! I saw one of our local AZ sites about a member getting ripped off by them. The seller of this car will probably never see a dime for it if it does sell at the auction.

Re: 4.3 mile IROC-Z on eBay - UPDATE
Hello all!
Well, I’m not sure if any of you know this, but we still have the IROC. It did not hit our reserve, so we pulled it out of the auction, put it back into our enclosed trailer, and headed home. I think the highest the bidding went was 25,000 which we were very surprised to see. We did have many people VERY interested in the car, but they were all expecting to pay around 20-25,000 for the car. Little do they know that we paid over 26,000 on eBay for the car! That’s not including all the money we put into it either. Maybe we paid too much for the car on EBay, who knows.... I have some pictures of the auction, I will post later today if I get a chance. I spent 6 hours cleaning the IROC for the auction the night before, The car looked AWESOME!!!!
We do have 3 people who are currently talking with the owner trying to work out a deal on the car. They were at the auction, and are very interested in the car, but didn’t want to pay the "premium" prices at the auction. Maybe it was because of the very high fees that Kruse charges when a car sells. We will see....
Scott pm'd me and told me about the upcoming 16th annual Camaro Fall Classic & F-Body Summit Car Show in OH. I’m going to try and make it, and will let you guys know if I do. If I do go, I’m afraid that it will probably be a Sunday only thing. Just have too much going on to try and make it there on Saturday also. I will shoot for Sunday early and try to get the car judged.... I’m sure the boss will want me to go, due to the fact so many Camaro owners there, someone just might make a reasonable offer to buy it..
I will update later today to let you guys know if I am going to make it. Take care everyone!!

Re: 4.3 mile IROC-Z on eBay - UPDATE
Hello guys.. I made it to the car show in OH. 5 hours worth of driving there, and about $350.00 in fuel!! (I took a 2005 Hummer to tow the Iroc and an enclosed trailer) It was really a great time! Too bad I couldn’t make it on Saturday, only Sunday. I guess the first day is the day that everyone is there, so I missed out on a lot, but at least I made it for one day. It was a great time overall, except the ride home. We left at 5:30 which meant we would get home around 11-12:00 am or so. Had to stop for more, and more gas and of course food. Well, that didn’t happen. We ended up having a tire blow out on the trailer at 70mph! That was fun, NOT. Then the Jack that was in the trailer would not lift both the car and trailer, so I had to unload the Iroc and then it still wouldn’t do it. I ended up getting a 4x4 pc of wood under the frame, and it helped to get another bite. I then could dig a hole in the dirt, and get the spare tire on. All the while traffic flies past us at 80 plus mph in the pitch black on i80. Believe it or not, we had TWO cops past us and didn’t stop. We had the Iroc flashers going as well as the trailer and hummer and they just zoomed by. It would have been nice if they could have just parked behind us with their lights on to make sure nobody slammed into us. Oh well…
I’m kind of disappointed in the way the judging was held at the show. It was 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc Gen cars and the only classes were Best of Show, and top 20. Of course this IROC did not get "Best of show", it’s kind of hard to compete with a guy who has a 3rd Gen car with a ton of money in the motor and other things. I did get a "Top 20" plaque which was really good I guess considering the amount of cars that were there. Firebirds and Camaro’s were there. Oh, and by the way Sean, I think I met your wife. She came up to me and my wife just as we arrived, and told me that her husband said "if you only take pictures of ONE car at the car show, make sure it’s the 85 Iroc with 4 miles on it" Correct me if I am wrong.. She did get plenty of pictures, and I had the car slicked up pretty good that day. I can’t believe I didn’t take any pictures of the car sitting on display. With everything else going on, I totally spaced it. I did take some shots of the car when it was getting judged, so I will have to post them, as well as the ones when we took the car to the Kruse Auto Auction. Oh, here is a link finally of the photos of the auction. There just a few but I thought I would share them. http://s258.photobucket.com/albums/h...ay%20Pictures/
I will post some pictures of the car show today. Have to sort them out first... On another note, I did have a “For Sale” sign in the car, but didn’t have any one who was serious about buying it. I did have a guy who made his very young son ask me how much for the car. I don’t understand why he didn’t just ask, I don’t bite....
Well guys, sorry to talk your ears off, just thought I would post some info of what happened this weekend. I’ll be back!

Thats cool. Im glad that me and my wife got to talk to her, and let her take pictures. She is really nice. If you have some pictures, yes, that would be great if you would post them. I dident take any of the car sitting there, only getting judged.. Sorry you couldent make it to see the car for yourself. If we have it in the spring/summer of 2010, Im sure I will be taking it to some more shows...Thanks for the pictures!

Yea, I was hoping the paint would be in better shape also, but it’s just sad that someone didn’t spend a few bucks to cover it up over the years. What a shame if you ask me. Could have been a perfect paint job it was waxed, and covered. No luck on rims yet, I have talked to many people, and sent a ton of emails, so I will just keep going until I find some. There has to be someone out there who has a set. Wait, I take that back, I do have a lead from someone in Canada who claims they might be able to get me a set of some new ones.. Hoping to hear back from him by the weekend. I will let you know what I find out. I am sorting through all the pics I took today, and will be posting them soon...
Stay tuned…
I think in the heat the car cover could of attached itself to the paint..dont you think?
