In regards to the chips, I would use a pointed toothpick to apply touch-up to the chip only. Try not to get any touch-up on the surrounding painted areas. After it dries, like 24 hours or more, lightly wetsand the area to level the surface. You can then buff the area and the chip will be gone. Good luck and the car is looking great.

I would use this!!!

The GoodYear Gatorbacks would not be a good choice as the rubber would be deteriorating and unsafe. With the cleaning being done, not original rims, tires, floormats, etc, he is already past the part of "never been touched or prepped". Most shows would not expect to see an original 25 year old car show up on the original tires due to safety reasons, so get the car looking like you want to see it at shows and enjoy it. if that means driving it around locally, then so be it. You may never get this opportunity again! If I bought the car, I would also remove the grease markings from the windows, but only after pictures are taken. Are these markings from the factory or the transport company?

If you go to a show and see a super clean IROC-Z on display. You would be impressed. Then you get closer and see that the interior is also mint. Look at the odometer and see only a few hundred miles and you'd be drooling. Do you really think the same would be the case if the car was sitting at a show with plastic on the interior and the chin spoiler off? I don't think so.

Also, the car came with silver rims. Keith, don't forget that this car was designed for V, Z or W rated tires. Please don't put S, T or H rated tires on the car.
I totally disagree with the spoiler.. un restored cars even with the dust are the big thing in collectors circles. I read and follow auctions closely and I can tell you that leaving it like a barn find is the best way. I am kinda sad it was cleaned up. If you are looking to show it, yes, clean it up and put it nice, but if the owner wants value then it should of stayed in the truck!

I guess it's like buying a kid a GI Joe or Barbie and not opening the package so that one day it will be worth more. Or opening it up and playing the heck out of it and love every minute of it!

Re: 4.3 mile IROC-Z on eBay - UPDATE

Just read throught the whole thread. MAN!! this makes me wish I had bought an IROC. This car's history is amazing, and an inspiration to those of us who might not even get their own F-body to fully restored/finished condition some day, but REALLY want to. It's big motivation for me to keep mine now. My personal opinion on the ground effects has already kind of been suggested. I'd get a NEW front peice, if possible, and have it painted to match (shouldn't be too much of a problem to match?) and bolt it on with NEW hardware. That way the original peice and hardware remains in the packaging. Just my opinion, but maybe a good compromise between those who are opposed or for the instalation? regardless of what happens, keep up the good work!

Re: 4.3 mile IROC-Z on eBay - UPDATE

Hey guys,

It’s been a while since I have been online and thought I would give you a small update on the car. Haven’t really done much with the car lately, in fact, it has sat covered up since the last car show in the fall. I really need to get out there, put the battery charge on it, start it, and let it warm up for awhile.

Since warmer weather is upon us, I am going to be placing this car on Ebay this week. Not really sure which day yet, I would like to do it today if I have time. I had a guy interested in this car a few months ago, but he backed out. He said that he found a few low mileage cars with 10-20,000 miles on them for less money. Well, yea, but we are talking about two completely different cars! Anyway, like I said, since its getting warmer, I thought I would stick it on Ebay and see what it goes for. I will put a reserve on it of course so we don’t risk giving the thing away. I really don’t want to sell it, but for some reason the owner does. I personally think he should hold onto it for about 10 years or so, then I think it would bring some real money.

I was really looking forward to taking it to some more car shows this year, but who knows, maybe I will get to if it doesn’t bring some decent money on Ebay.

I will let you guys know when I list this car, so keep checking this thread...

Take care everyone!

"Quote" So when are you guy’s gunna put a big block in it?

We already did a few weeks ago, plus we slapped a supercharger on it, and then stuffed in a couple of turbo’s.....NOT!! LOL

Well I hate that the owner is getting rid of it; hopefully it will be bought by someone that will take the proper care of it.

(Wishing I had married Lisa Marie Presley, bought the winning lotto ticket, won Dancing with the Stars, was involved in that Stanford Financial Ponzie Scheme or something like that right about now....)

Re: 4.3 mile IROC-Z on eBay - UPDATE

Yea, me too. I would kill to have this car sitting in my garage! I guess Im just happy that I at least got to be a part of something so cool as this car and all the great people I have talked to. It something I dont think I will get the opportunity to do again in my lifetime. I am working on the listing for the Classified section of this forum now, so hopefully someone from the thirdgen will buy it. That way I know it would be taken care of properly and hopefully preserved. We will have to see what happens I guess....

Just letting everyone know that I placed this car for sale in the classified section of the thirdgen site also. It clearly states that I cannot mention eBay, or place any links to eBay, so I did not. Man, I cant believe how many people are watching this car already on eBay!! Withen one hour of me posting, it was watched by 23 people already, and has a current bid of $10,100. This might get interesting.....

Keith -
Thanks for posting all of this - the pics look great and I've decided to save them for use in restoring my car! These are probably the best "NEW" Iroc photos around although I will never have a "NEW" Iroc; I hope to have a "good as new" one day!

This listing (260574824313) has been removed, or this item is not available.

So what happened? Did it get flagged? TOO much bandwidth use? Did it sale already??

Re: 4.3 mile IROC-Z on eBay - UPDATE

Knowing fleaBay people....It probably got flagged as fake, since there is "no way there could be a 4 mile, 1984 car that looked that good". Most likely by people that have no idea of its history & ts restoration to bring it to the point it was at now.

Now I am really confused. "I did not realize I could not put a link to our web site, "
You can link ebay acutions to other sites normally without issue. OR at least you used to could.
Good Luck with the sale!

Hey!!! What are you doing? You can't do that to my forum !!

I told this to Keith the day the car was listed. Unfortunately, I did not have the time to post the link for him. For anybody that wants to bring this up in the future, that the moderators and administrators are playing favorites, by allowing the postings of only certain cars for sale, you're right. When you have a 25 year old 3rd gen with 5 miles on it, we'll let you post info about it here too.

Re: 4.3 mile IROC-Z on eBay - UPDATE

Thanks Scott! After I spoke to you, I saw the place in the Classifieds that said "NO EBAY" so; I didn’t put a link in my ad. I didn’t want to stir up anything, and I don’t want to upset anyone here. Everyone here has been so nice; I really appreciate everyone’s help that you have given me throughout this whole experience. It has been a blast talking with everyone, and meeting new people. I certainly won’t forget it, and I can only hope that one day I can own my own thirdgen Camaro one day. Things are just a bit tight right now, so It may have to wait.

Did everyone see what the high bid is now? Its 10 till midnight and its now at $23,100. Not bad considering I just relisted this car yesterday!! I can’t believe how many people are watching this auction!!! Well, I am off to bed, gotta work in the am...Later everyone!!

Re: 4.3 mile IROC-Z on eBay - UPDATE

I just had a guy call me who found the car on ebay and sounded very interested in the car. He wanted to trade a 62 Studebaker Hawk, and $8,000 cash for the IROC, or $25,000 cash. He is not 100% sure of the mileage, and does not know how many owners it has had. He told me how great the car was, and how rare it was as well. If it was so rare, and great, then why is he trying to get rid of it for practically nothing? He said his Studebaker is worth $25,000 in good economical times, and yet he would still give us $8,000 cash also for our IROC???? Sounds like he can’t sell the car, and nobody wants it.. Lucky, the owner does not want a Studebaker. As far as he is concerned, the Studebaker is not a very "desirable" car to have. The gentleman also proceeded to tell me that we would not get even close to what we are wanting...

Well, we are only $1,900 away from what we was offering, and this is only day 2 of the auction.

Ya know, I have talked to a lot of people who have offered money for this car, but none of them have really been a thirdgen fan like most of the members here. They want it because they think they can steal it for a great price. Then, they start the downgrading process. Ya know, when someone starts talking about all the negatives of something in order to lessen its value, so you will think its worth less, and sell it for less. I have even had people on ebay email me and tell me it’s not very desirable because it’s not a fuel injected engine. If that’s true, then why do YOU want this car then?? LOL That’s funny, at all the Camaro car shows I went to, I don’t recall anyone saying, “Damn, too bad it’s got a carburetor, it might be worth something if it did have” Granted, this car might be more desirable if it had TPI motor, but it is what it is, and if you think about it, it’s kind of nice seeing one. Most of the cars out there are the TPI motors, am I correct on this guys??? Just from the car shows I went to last year, it seemed like most all the 95 Iroc’s were fuel injected.

Anyway, I just thought I would give you guys an update, and vent at the same time….

Take care!

Re: 4.3 mile IROC-Z on eBay - UPDATE

Keith, yall are doing great man! I would not worry about all the negatives or talk downs on it. You know what you have and for the most part, any camaro collector would.
IMHO it is worth what you are asking for it. It is not every day you can buy a New Never driven 85 IROC Z. TPI or otherwise. The TPI vs Carb is not important in MHO. I had a 86 that was the same color and everything as yours that I bought New back in the day.
Virtually the same car other than it being TPI and you would NOT notice much difference between TPI vs Carb. The carb is still computer control and behaves and drives almost
like a TPI. I know as Im also driving a 85 z28 carb everyday for a daily driver!
Its going to be kind of heart breaking to see your car go though. Hope the new person will sign up to this site if nothing else so we can keep track of the vehicle and the owner's plans.

WOW the end of an era or maybe the beginning of a new one !!! this has been great to follow I am the original and only owner of my 92 rs bought new in Germany while I was in the army. I was pining for one of these cars while back in high school during the 80ties. I could not afford one until 93 when I got mine. god I am old Two days after my 44th birthday ouch !! It has been a lot of fun to watch this car. There has been some great work on it. I listened to it start for the first over and over again there has been some fantastic information here. I hope who ever buys it enjoys it and realizes what I time capsule that this car really is. I wish I had been able to see it in person but I have been real sick last few years and could not go out much polymyositis is a evil little disease. I hope who ever buys this car is not one of those people who flip-cars houses what ever for money I hate those people..

with that much time left in the auction, I predict the winning bid will be $48,543.

Anybody else want to make a bold prediction?

Re: 4.3 mile IROC-Z on eBay - UPDATE

I've seen a seat belt... yes, one seat belt... for a 1958 impala sell for $3800.

When it comes to ebay, anything can happen, and most interesting auctions double in value in teh last 60 seconds of the auction, so I think over $50 is possible, so hang on and enjoy the ride

LOL
Keith, welcome to selling cars on Ebay. I have sold seven (7) collector/enthusiast cars on Ebay over the years, and every time it's the same pattern. Early in the auction, the profiteers come out of the woodwork, and if you don't accept their lowball offers, they tell you the car is not worth more than that and you will never get a higher offer. And you always prove them wrong. Usually these are the people looking to turn the car over at a profit (dealers and flippers).

Then later, when the auction starts heating up and getting into big dollars, the insulters start emailing you. These are the people who really do want your car, but they are jealous because they can't afford it. To make themselves feel better, they insult you and/or downgrade the car. What's really amusing are the guys who tell you that you are insane for asking such a high price. (Um -- it's an auction, people. The seller is not setting the price, the buyers are).

In almost every case, the person who ends up buying the car I have for sale is not one of the people who emailed me during the auction to waste my time with stupid questions or get into a debate with me. The final high bidder (especially on more expensive cars like this) generally knows what they want, they are knowledgable about what they are looking at, and they have the cash to buy it.

Just some thoughts from my experiences! I hope your auction ends as successfully as mine have!

Tom hit that statement dead nuts! I personally have sold over 2 dozen classic cars on ebay and have only answered a question from the future buyer of any of those cars once! I really doubt your winner will even ask you a question and will probably snipe the auction in the last few seconds of the auction. I recently bought a chevelle shell on ebay that doubled in the last 30 seconds of the auction, I sniped it with 7 seconds to go and it still got bumped up in the last second, almost lost her. Like said before by other members, your car is what it is, your future owner probably knows everything he needs to know by now anyway without contacting you. Good luck with the auction....I'm hoping to see big bucks (finally) out of a truly deserving third gen!....JohnnT

Re: 4.3 mile IROC-Z on eBay - UPDATE

Wonderful thread here, and wonderful car!

If the car doesn't sell and you find that you've still got it in late June, you should consider trying to get it out to the GM Nationals in Carlisle PA (June 24-26 I believe). I go every year, and every year there have been more and more third gen camaros at the show. This is by far the biggest GM show on the east coast, and it would be great to see your car there!

Re: 4.3 mile IROC-Z on eBay - UPDATE

Just checked the ebay listing, and right above it is an 85 IROC signed by a bunch of celebrities. here's the link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Most-...item3a5965047e

He says, and I quote:
"I'm certain there are other low-mileage 1985 IROC Z Camaros out there (although probably not many with only 747 original miles)...".

I find it funny he's asking 200k for a car that has almost 200x more miles than this IROC. Granted, it's still something to brag about, and it IS signed by all those celebrities, but you'd think He'd check out other auctions going on at the SAME TIME before listing the mileage FIRST, before going on to explain the signatures.

I know the buyers of each car will be purchasing them for different reasons; they are each special in their own way. I just thought the irony of that statement was too much to let it slide.

Re: 4.3 mile IROC-Z on eBay - UPDATE

Yea, that is a good one!! I have seen this car on eBay before. I guess it didn’t sell. Anyway, I emailed the seller for the heck of it. I quoted his message about him saying there were probably not many Iroc's with that low of mileage out there, and then I gave him the Item number to our auction and our 5 mile Iroc. That ought to make his jaw drop! LOL!

Thanks for the heads up!!

If this car doesn't sell you should try to get it to the Good Guys car show in Nashville, TN in May. 21-23 to be exact. here is the link the the Good Guy Listings.
But this is an amazing piece of American car history. Even better that a person like you is able to be there to take care of it the way it should be. Instead of hacking and modding, you brought it back to off the assembly line status, cause it really wasn't even in a dealership to be labeled as "showroom condition", even down to the window markings and leaving the GFX off. Amazing!!!

Now I want to know what happened to that other car in front of this one in that trailer.

That's a nice one, too. Too bad they ruined it with a bunch of Sharpies.

Re: 4.3 mile IROC-Z on eBay - UPDATE

Just a heads up for ebay sellers: if you want to get maximum $$$$ for whatever you are selling, don't end your auction in the middle of a Sunday afternoon. There won't be too many people watching their PC at that time of day. Usually evenings between 9 PM and 11 PM are the best, we can't forget about the guys on both coasts.

I think this auction will end with shorter money today for this reason.

i think in the age of gixen, that kind of thinking isn't really true anymore. I don't care what time an auction ends anymore, even if it's 3 in the morning

How many guys have it? Percentage? still leaves a bunch of potential bidders out of the equation.

Re: 4.3 mile IROC-Z on eBay - UPDATE

it's not a question of "have" it's a question of "use"

If you are using ebay and don't know the basic laws of sniping, then you aren't a serious bidder anyway, and have no business being involved in an auction like this.

I'm not speaking directly to you, just in general

Re: 4.3 mile IROC-Z on eBay - UPDATE

I try to end all my auctions at 10:00 pm eastern time. I sell a lot on ebay(20 items a week) and this is the best time by far. If its during the day people have other things going on. Especially this sunday which is Easter. But if i was buying a high ticket item like this i would be paying careful attention no matter what time it ends.

I've watched several items on Ebay over the years and didn't bid because I just forgot because they ended in mid day while I was busy doing something else. Missed some great deals too. Evening is really the best time to end an auction.

Re: 4.3 mile IROC-Z on eBay - UPDATE

maybe this has been answered (but I don't feel like reading through all 395 posts again) and maybe you don't even want to answer this question. But I'm just curious what you are looking to get out of this car and I'm not looking for an exact number as this car is way out of my price range but I'm just curious what the car is worth to you or the actual owner, like 30 mid 30s or over 40.

Re: 4.3 mile IROC-Z on eBay - UPDATE

I have seen the vid of this car, the ebay page and I am very impressed with the quality of its current condition, even with being in a trailer for so long. How would someone know to look in that trailer anyways? It looked like it had been sitting, but damn...that is one heck of a place to put a car like that.

This is just what I can remember off hand. The guy the current owner bought it from had seen it from time to time when the trailer door had been open and he had been passing by. When he saw the oprotunity to buy it and resell it to someone who would take care of it properly, he did so. If you have the time, read through the posts. It's in there.........somewhere. Definitely one of the coolest things I've ever seen or read about.
