Steering wheel

I am in the midst of re-installed the airbag wheel in my 90 GTA and was wondering if anyone had a black leather wrapped steering wheel they'd want to sell. condition doesn't matter as I plan on getting it re-covered. I am having no luck finding one around here. Help appreciated

Re: Steering wheel

You might try one of the venders...

I would try www.hawksthirdgenparts.com first

Honestly I am not sure if they were available with Leather wrap with the airbag... I have never seen one... Not saying they do not exist, but I have never seen one is all..

I would try the classifieds, or the body and interior sections as well... you might get better action than here

Re: Steering wheel

Ok thanks.
The prev owner gave me a wheel with wairbag with the car but when you look at the build sheet it should be black leather wrapped and he gave me a grey regular one. The RPO in my build sheet is NP5

Re: Steering wheel

All I have ever seen were the Gray Vinyl wheels for airbags... They may have made a Leather wrapped version, but I have never seen one...

I've never seen a leather wrapped air bag wheel either.

Re: Steering wheel

They definitely made leather/airbag 90-92, I got 3 of them, unfortunately for the op, they are all on my cars and not for sale. I am pretty sure that I saw a few on ebay that have been constantly relisted, so check that out they may still be around.

But if you're having it recovered anyway, does it really matter what is underneathe the leather that will be on top? All it will do is make it a little thicker if they wrap the leather over the vynil, but that also depends on whether you have the earlier or the later steering wheel. The later model was thinner, but being a 90 MY car it is prolly the thicker one.

Check ebay for sure

Re: Steering wheel

No luck on Ebay, closest I could find was a Camaro wheel. I am guessing my wheel would be black leather as my car is equipped black leather seats. I may just have to start hitting junk yards like mad

Re: Steering wheel

My car was supposed to have the leather appointment group. Which consisted of leather wheel, emo brake, and shifter. It did not come with any of that. My only guess is that the leather wheels were not ready for the airbag transition in 1990. Trans Ams and GTAs were to recieve this.

Re: Steering wheel

Yeah, my e-brake handle was missing when I bought the car, as was the factory shifter. So i could not tell from those. However, I did install my vinyl wheel today, after some cursing and $300 later it's in. A lot bigger than that Grant POS that was in there but it just looks so at home in that car. Tomorrow I am doing my brakes and then waiting for my cluster to arrive!
