special order RS with IROC eqpm't possible?
After checking search, FAQ's etc., I hope I am properly placing this question.
There is a 89 RS vert on ebay that is described as a special-ordered RS with all IROC eqpm't(sway bars, springs steering box etc. I assume).
Once factory RS, always an RS I thought.
The RPO sticker and original window sticker are to follow. Did Chevy do this kind of special order back then?
Was there IROC'S in RS clothing?
How could one confirm the IROC status?
Thanks

I there's a few way you can look at a question like this. First when people say its an RS with IROC equipment this tells me that someone has an RS and got some sway bars off ebay and called it IROC optioned equipped. Now the other way to look at it was its an RS that had factory options that were also on the IROC. For example the LG4 was available in all trim levels so i wouldn't call a sports coop an "IROC" because it had this motor which happened to also be offered in the Z28. Now there are things that were not available for example the TPI motor was not available in RS cars. Now there were ways to override what came from the factory and special order odd color schemes or decal packages and things like that but i highly doubt they would let you order a RS that truely had all of the IROCs options. Now the other aspect of things is the VIN as i recall the vin digit that states the trim level is shared between the higher z/28/iroc and the RS/sports coop. So the only way to really know if you have a z/28 or IROC is to look on the RPO codes for RPO z28 at least.

I'm curious about this myself. A guy I used to work with bought an '88 Camaro (not badged as "RS" yet) with the little rear wing brand new off the lot. He swears it was a 305/5speed with rear discs. He also thinks it might have been TPI, but he doesn't remember that for sure. Another guy that I work with is the one that replaced the brakes at all four corners at 11K (yes, he drives hard). He says they were rear discs also.

Thanks for your thoughts guys. Don't know if this could ever be resolved tactfully with the seller.
If the RPO and window sticker show up, that could help clear the air.
Seems more like a sales pitch to me.

GM was pretty specific about what could and couldn't be ordered on a car. There aren't really any secret back door deals that slipped through the cracks. 9 times out of 10 Ebay sellers are full of crap. Unless they can provide rock solid proof, don't believe them. It's like an unwritten law that everyone selling a Camaro or Firebird has to represent it as some 1 of 1 collector car, when 90% are just tastelessly modified junk.

The ONLY way to get a was to get your hands on the RS Special Service Package (RPO B4C), this would have made it a definite wolf in sheeps clothing. They even came with the TPI engine.
HOWEVER, they were only available in '91 & '92. You are correct . . . It would either have to have been modified . . . or . . . it's actually an IROCZ but it's being pawned off as an RS. The last part would be pretty wierd. Need to see the VIN and the SPID.

And thus with reference to the RPO B4C, that car couldn't be one because . . . "they were only available in '91 & '92".
That the IROC ceased to exist in the later years is also good info.
