Poor Camaro

I found this on youtube just now... not sure if this was shown here, if it was then I apologize.

I had absolutely no idea that a tire blowout from a burnout can destroy your quarter panel like that.

Holly crap! Maybe it's just me but the whole setup seemed a little odd to begin with... What's wrong with an old school brake stand?

Re: Poor Camaro

It's pretty obvious the wheel well was rusted to hell before the tire exploded.

Re: Poor Camaro

I saw another car do the same a few years ago at the Car Craft Summer Nationals. The car was in excellent shape and the owner thought he was only going to put on a smoke show. His show car ended up needing thousands in repairs and a repaint because the rear quarter looked similar to this one. Keep your restored or resto modded Camaros out of the burnout competitions.

Re: Poor Camaro

Jeez now I'm gonna think twice before smoking up my 91 T/A vert! Then again it's a posi so the wheels won't be spinning as fast but still...
Oh and I commented on that video asking if the car was fixed... turns out the owner just pulled the drivetrain to transplant into another body and had this one crushed.

Re: Poor Camaro

Did no one notice the fog light hanging out, the several rust spots, or the generally poor condition overall? The paint that was visible was somewhat shiny, but everything else was typical thirdgen beater.

The tire exploded because they were crap to begin with. Hercules HP 4000's aren't exactly the pinnacle of performance tires. On top of that we don't know if this nitwit had them over inflated, or if they were worn/damaged before the burnout started. I can tell you from experience I've driven several name brand tires to the point they were virtually destroyed, and the worst damage they've ever done is scratching the clear coat. I've had blow outs at 80mph, and I've had tires fail doing burn outs, I've smoked tires until I couldn't read the gauges or even see the orange glow through the smoke in the cockpit, all without doing that kind of damage. An explosion like that is an isolated event, a perfect storm of crappy tires, a rotted thirdgen, and a nitwit owner.

Re: Poor Camaro

Hey guys I found this link posted up on the NEcamaro-firebird.org website:

edit... from the pictures it looks like the Camaro was a decent car before the blow out
