"If you weren't in California in 1985, you've probably never seen one of these. Even in California not too many people are aware of them. It's called the "California IROC". Produced only at the end of the 1985 model year at the Van Nuys, Ca. plant before it closed forever. Only 500 (I've also heard 502) were built. The RPO code is 1C5 (California Promotional Package). Of course, each one sports the B4Z RPO (IROC-Z Performance Package), including 16" wheels. The only colors that were available were red (400) and black (100). They came from the factory with no hood louvers, no rear deck spoiler, no IROC-Z lettering, no stripes, and no TPI markings. A real sleeper, for sure. The window sticker shows a $75.00 credit for the deleted items on RPO 1C5. "

Hello osso12!!

I believe that the info above is suspect!! The Van Nuys plant didn't close in 1985, I have a 1987 Z-28 made at the Van Nuys plant in Feb 1987!!

As far as I recall, the Van Nuys plant closed at the end of the 3rd gen production run in 1992!!

Re: did I come across a rare iroc?

Yeah. The specific 1C5 info is mostly correct but it's way off with regards to the Van Nuys plant. Neither plant closed anytime soon after the 1C5 run.
Van Nuys was in production until the last 3rd gen rolled off the line on Aug 27, 1992.
Even the Norwood, Ohio plant didn't close until Aug 26, 1987.

iroc-z.com is known for having inaccurate data. His site isn't very reputable.

Hello 87 player bird!!!

Well, I don't have the A4U RPO!!

Looking on the bright side, the coast is just fine!!

We've had a great winter so far, a little rain, lots of sunshine, and warm temps!!

I've been in Chilliwack for 16 years, and my wife has cousins that live in Surrey!!

Re: did I come across a rare iroc?

this post is kinda old so i don't know if the original poster is even still checking..or even still wants to know oppinions, but i think a 5 speed 3rd gen is a bit rare in a way, since almost all the ones I've ever seen (stock not 5 speed upgraded) were auto's. I guess it depends on where your from really.

Re: did I come across a rare iroc?

Not sure why you think its rare. Cool maybe, but not all that rare.
Had a 92 RS that was a 5 speed with 305.

Ill let you know when I get the book. Should be less than a week.
If the book is not back ordered that is...lol

I got the book a few days ago, and I did not see a mention of the 1C5 option in the 85 camaro options section.

Re: did I come across a rare iroc?

wow just came back to check in..its amazing what happens to a post..anyway the car is fun..would I say rare..NO since 3rd gens has a load of options that aren't documented.what is RARE is that I got this car for FREE and it runs good..and it has the factory motor and a 5 speed, and the G92 option and Bose system. This is a blast to drive but WE all have to remember one thing were are all driving in a car that is 20 years old...some of my friends weren't even born to see them at the dealerships..respect that and don't cut them up....I would put my 1987 iroc against my buddies 2010 mustang anyday and out handle it in turns...who knows maybe in 1/4 mile but then again Iroc's where handling cars...that happened to be fast.

Re: did I come across a rare iroc?

I'd definitely save it! Any Iroc or Thirdgen for that matter is worth saving, as long as it won't cost you an arm and a leg! There are too many of these cars that are stripped down and sold for parts. I rarely see any Thirdgens around here that are running. Mine is one of just a few in the whole county, and there is only one other one that is currently road worthy.
