Re: AC RETRO FIT - R12 TO R134a

I converted to enviro safe refrigerent. It's easier than R134. I did drain the system and put on R134 charging ports. It worked pretty good. Check out the website for lots of info.

Re: AC RETRO FIT - R12 TO R134a

you must remove the compressor and drain all the oil and put in pag oil. replace the accumulator and oriface tube, flush the condenser and evaporator with refrigerant safe flush. vacuum system for about 30 minutes. r134a operates at higher pressures and causes the old compressor and hoses to leak.

Re: AC RETRO FIT - R12 TO R134a

Thanks guys. I did it last night and today. Last night I did the retrofit and freon and the damn compresser seized!!! So today I bought a new ac comp, and used the oil, freon, leak detector and sealer....and more freon, and it runs cool. No leaks so far....oh yea about "forgeting a/c"...a lot gearheads up here in va say that on older model vehicles. Sorry if I offended anyone...I lived in Texas before and was stationed in Florida for a while....so I know first hand how hott it gets

Sorry to hear about the seized compressor
Did you add oil before you re-charged it?

Re: AC RETRO FIT - R12 TO R134a

What I meant was, what caused the compressor failure?
Did you Oil the system when you did the Original Retro-fit?

Re: AC RETRO FIT - R12 TO R134a

It's all good right ? It works
Just wanted to make a point for anyone doing a Retro-fit
Make sure you Re-Oil your system After you flush it
Sorry you had to learn the hard way

Re: AC RETRO FIT - R12 TO R134a

This is just FYI for everybody

I grew up on R12, and don't work on R134a systems, but I do know this.....

Any fresh system needs to be injected with some oil to lube the compressor pistons and seals
and if you don't, well...sieze

Back in the day, when an R12 system took 2.25 or 2.75 or whatever Pounds of Refrigerant, it always loved 0.8OZ of Oil, even if it had some already. The extra Oil helped the seals and stopped come-backs.

Anyway, make sure you follow the instructions when you do a Retro-fit, and if it doesn't state anything about adding Oil for the Compressor, talk to a local expert before you proceed

Good luck

Change that soon as it will transfer the wobble to other bearings, NM the belt wear

Jeez, aren't I just a fountain of cheer
