I am a 19-year-old guy, it takes a lot to make my eyes tear up, but I could almost feel them tearing up when watching these videos' of a 1991 Firebird 305tpi in it's last moments. This was a cash for clunker turn in! It looks mint!
Here's it running:

Here's it dying:

I'm not a big Firebird guy, so really I shouldn't be that bothered by it. But I am! How terrible what happened to this beautiful Thirdgen. I would have stolen it before letting something like this happen to a Thirdgen.

All I have to say is 2 things 1. Atleast that car got driven before it died (which btw that car seemed pretty damn healthy, whats wrong with people?) 2. I want a job that allows me to do donuts in the parking lot.
Senior Member
what an idiot, whoever that owner was did not know what they were doing... well maybe the did, they probably got 4K ... that car will probably end up on the used car lot or at auction, after all it's an America Icon, or isn't it?

I hope he ended up with a Toyota, so that the soul of the firechicken takes over the pedal...

The real tragedy is that Thirdgens are so much undervalued to the general population that you can hardly blame people for cashing them in. 15 years ago I could have had a '69 Camaro (6 cyl mind you) for $100. Second gens went through a similar pattern.
We are a very passionate group. Whenever I see another Thirdgen on the road I am always somewhat hesitant to show my enthusiasm. How many drive the car because they absolutely love it or because it was what they could afford. That is a topic for discussion.

By and large I enjoyed the C4C videos of Explorers, Caravans and rusty pickups dying. I was genuinely happy to see that garbage off the road.
But it just goes to show that some lazy people didn't even consider the value of their car before trading it in. Even that dealership should have recognized they could have made money on the car, and took it as a trade in, rather than C4C.
BTW: Would you go to a dealership who allowed their employees to tear around in the cars like that? Something tells me its not just the C4C cars they abuse.

I found that shocking as well. Who knows how many customer's cars they treat like that. Originally Posted by campin1983

It's a shame, really. I'm sure there were some in pretty rough shape; but think of all the parts that we are always looking for. Hopefully someone gets some parts off of these before they are all crushed.

That may be your story, but I'm going to have to say that 69 camaros were instant classics, and never went through that really worthless time period.
Not to say there wasn't some idiotthat didn't sell one for $100. For every ne that sold for $100, there were hundreds that sold for thousands

So, can i have the torque arm off it?
wow, yeah i would try real hard to think of a way to steal that car before i let cash for clunkers have it, kind of like it was screaming for help at the end and then giving up as its voice faded away, it is sort of depressing

i find myself standing up hard for thirdgens all the time, so im the same way when i pass another third gen on the road, because they most likely dont care as much, but today i had a guy pull up next to me in a primer gray firebird, and yell at me "nice car man!" i said the same to him.. i thought that was cool, lolOriginally Posted by GTA50

You know that feeling you get when you break up with your first love, or when your childhood pet dies , you know that tight heart tugging feeling that is always associated with something sad tragic or depressing , well I just had that feeling for the entire time they stood on the gas until it stopped.

there was a 90 IROC near dallas that got "recycled" for all that it was worth after it hit a junk yard from CFC. The locals here, including me, were all over i like ants on a snickers bar
I got the fog lights, the hatch motor, the dash emblem (yellow) a few more small things, and other people bought most everything else the first day it was up there

I stand up hard too for them....seeing other people who have them and sharing ideas like we do on this site. On thing I don't understand about CFC is why don't they take the good cars and give them to people who needed vehicles?? At least some form of transportation other than the bus or MARTA....or even taxi for that matter. People get on to me because I have 4 cars....My 99 chevy zr2 s10, my wife's 02 saturn sl1, my 86 Honda civic, and my 84 z28.....My civic is going away though...but me and my wife are never stranded...and I can do all the work on our cars myself...sometimes even in a parking lot!!!

I'm sorry to say that there aren't that many enthusiasts of 3rd gens left... everyone is driving a freakin' Toyota, yeah serves them right, to have the idea implanted in their head that their car is gonna keep going...
... in the last 2 weeks I have seen two 3rd gens, one Camaro, which has pretty good paint, someone at my college drives it, then there was a firebird I saw driving around my neighborhood, it was beat up... sorry to say damn car was ready for an intervention...
... I feel that those that don't have a stock 3rd gen should be given some slack on emissions... wait what was I talking about? ... oh yeah... well yeah there aren't that many people left that are into 3rd gens for the simple fact of loving their car...

When I traded in my Tahoe, the paperwork wasn't even done. Just the employees doing the test drive. They were REALLY enjoying the test drive & taking miles off the tires within a few feet. Thing was though....I caught the guy doing it.Originally Posted by campin1983

Him: "Yeah...Its a trade-in."
Me: "Yeah.....MY trade-in, which you dealer doesn't own yet! The paperwork has not been done, so if I catch you abusing MY Tahoe like that again, I'm gonna abuse YOU! After you own it, I don't care WHAT you do with it."
Between that & my further inspection of what I was going to buy...I backed out on the deal. Told the Manager about the "test drive". "Oh....." He didn't obviously care. And this was YEARS before C4C even existed.

The dealers sell the cars to scrap yards or parts yards and they can sell parts off of it. It just has to be deystroyed within 180 days, which has to be up by now.
