Found a 86 speed IROC with only 44K miles on it..
I found this car sitting in a guys yard last weekend. His brother purchased it new in 86 and basically just parked it in the garage. The owner passed away two months ago and now his two brothers are trying to figure out what to do with it. There lease is up on the duplex and they need to be out by the end of August.
It has been sitting outside for the last couple of months and is starting to go to crap. When I opened the hood there was a birds nest next to the mastercylinder and there is a wasps nest in the drivers door jamb. According to the younger brother the clutch went out last year so it isnt drivable. I noticed the side tank of the radiator is missing, looks like it maybe froze? Still had some antifreeze in the bottom of the radiator but who knows what else is broken. The body, paint and interior are in really condition however there is one dent in the drivers door.
My wife told me "NO F$^&%%&NG WAY, NO MORE IROC'S". Anyone local that might be interested?

The link doesn't work... The car itself doesn't sound like the condition aligns with the mileage. Are you sure that's not 144k?

Sorry about the bad link, 1st time I have used that site and didnt realise I coludnt link the whole album.
I am down loading 23 pics to photobucket and will post a link in a couple minutes.
The car is legit, still has the heavy orange peel in the clear coat. Look closely at the interior pics, it looks new and still smells new.

In picture #16 it looks like the rubber pads on the brake pedal and clutch pedal are worn away, so is the carpet by the gas pedal. This would indicate to me that the car has more than 44,000 miles. It is extremely unusual to wear them out if the car has only 44,000 miles. I think 144,000 miles is the actual mileage. Since the driver seat isn't worn out on the edge of the seat I'd say it had seat covers put on it when it was new to protect the seats. I'd ask to see some paper work on the car that has both mileage and dates listed to back it up. I don't think you'll get it. Just my opinion, I could be wrong about everything.

I thought the same thing also.
But, look at the steering wheel, carpet, door panels, seat belts, console, console switches, paint, tailights, weather stripping, rims, etc. The doors closed with a decent "thunk" sound also.
I bought my 1987 IROC in January of 1990 with 60K miles on it. It now has about 110K on it. It has been in a garage almost every night for the 20 years that I have owned it and it is in nowhere near the condition of this car.
I have replaced most of the parts I mentioned above on my car with GM parts in the late 90's / early 00's. They all broke at different times, were replaced at different times and they all didnt look new at the same time. That only happens once, when the car has low mileage.

Not trying to sound like an ***, but I did spend some time looking at it. I have no personell need to build up the car, my wife would kill me if I bought it and I am not interested in flipping it. The guy asked me if he and his brother decided to sell it would I know someone that would be interested. He has no idea what it is worth, he only knows that his brother loved the car and that his brother passed away two months ago and he doesnt have a place to store it. I told him I would put feelers out, and that it would go to someone that would not part it out or turn it into the typical beater 3rd gen.

Those pedals aren't worn; they're covers; available at most autoparts store.

Those are Washington plates. Seattle area I assume. That car is exactly what I always wanted! Blue, T-Tops and a 5 speed! If I didnt own my current IROC I would be all over that. Looks like a nice car!

Hmm, no A/C and it looks like it came that way from the factory. On one hand that's cool, because it's one less thing that doesn't work. It's more unusual. But then it doesn't have A/C. I always thought it'd be cool, but my Mustang is a factory A/C delete car and it's annoying being soaked in sweat all summer.

LG4 cars came with 145mph speedometers??? I thought that was a TPI-only thing in '86. If they didn't come with them, I smell fish. If they did, I'll shut up

Back to the car, overall it looks just like a neglected, low mile car to me. I don't see anything that would make me think it has more than 44k miles. For the right price, that'll make a GREAT car that will likely need very little to be brought back to good running condition.
Re: Found a 86 speed IROC with only 44K miles on it..
Very right on the A/C Jim... most cars around here have A/C, however most cars A/C doesn't work and most people really don't care. I think only my 2000 TA has actually working A/C in it.

Looks legit to me also. The drivers side outer seat bolster on the '85-'86 cars with the custom cloth interiors get trashed sliding in and out. This interior looks too nice for a 145K mi car.

The guy caled me last night and said his older brother isnt interested in selling it. I asked him to take the card I gave him with my name and home phone number and stick it in the glove box.
I know whats going to happen to this thing, it's going to get parked outside somewhere with no cover and rot away. Just sad.

I would if I wanted the car, but I dont. I just didnt want to see it rot away in someones yard, I'm funny that way.
If the guy calls me about selling it, I will revive this thread and filter the buyers.

I understand that this wold draw a typical 3rd gen minus low responce. But what would a non typicacel price be fore somthing like this in a running condition?
Re: Found a 86 speed IROC with only 44K miles on it..
It's my honest opinion that there's really no reason to ask for an approx price on anything here. You'll get a bunch of cheapskates telling you everything is worthless, and a few enthusiasts that think everything is worth gold. If you want a low ball number, look up a blue book value, if you want a higher number look on NADA.com under collector values. Just keep in mind the NADA value is still a bit of a shot in the dark, as the majority of the cars around are going to be in fair-poor condition, and they don't even give values for mint condition, museum quality cars. But at least it'll give you a ballpark idea.
