Underside paint color questions
Dropped my rear end to put new break lines on it and decided while it was out I would restore all the other random parts back there . My qusetion is , what color would the following parts be when the car rolled out of the factory ?
Drive shaft
Torque arm
Springs
Sway bar
Sway bar hardware
I figured out some of the other parts but these have a layer of typical surface rust so I cant tell. Thanks for any info guys.

Re: Underside paint color questions
Not exactly. Most of that stuff was painted. The driveshaft and differential housing are unpainted, but most of the rest of those items are all various shades of satin/semi-gloss black. The sway bar mounting stuff may have been a zinc plated or uncoated steel as well.
Re: Underside paint color questions
Drive shaft - bare steel if it's not aluminum
Torque arm - Semi-gloss or 'chassis' black
Springs - semi-gloss or 'chassis' black
Sway bar - semi-gloss or 'chassis' black
Sway bar hardware - phosphate coating, looks flat black.

Re: Underside paint color questions
Actually there is also some markings on most of those suspension pieces as well.. They would mark with a paint pen that things were torqued. The rear diff often had yellow paint on at the point of the Universal joint where the pinion attached to the drive-shaft. There was a Green spot on the toque arm, the ends of the pan-hard arm had light blue ends...
Here is the thread https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...-markings.html
I would like to point out that the rear axle was PAINTED BLACK when you had the B&W (Aussie) 9 bolt), however it was unpainted when you got the Saginaw 10 Bolt.
The Drive-shaft to the best of my knowledge was always unpainted...
Hope that helps...
John
