Not a bad looking car thats for sure ...I would love to look underneath her...If its clean i say buy..Interesting side note is guy has a 90 vette listed on his website for around the same money less miles..I say bring 2900 or 3k cash and slap it down for the bird and tell him take it or leave it...good luck

Re: A Good Deal?

Looks pretty good, I'd say if the interior isn't too shot, then it's worth the asking price, or close to it. I'd like to see driver's seat and chassis shots though.

Re: A Good Deal?

Looks like a car in great shape. Too bad it's a 305 AT, so probably 2.73s, single cat setup so it will be pretty slow. I own basically that exact car, color, interior, options, everything.

Still spanks a loser LO3!

It would feel quick to us in the RS world.

I'd say that's a pretty fair price for that car given how clean it is and that it's a 350, especially in the rust belt. Not a bird fan myself, and hate tan interiors with a passion, but I'd probably rock that at that price.

Re: A Good Deal?

The interior in the first one is trashed. The paint looks decent, but that could just be the pics. I'd want to see it up close. Generally if the owners didn't keep the interior nice there will be other neglect. The pics are taken from angles so as to hide what look to be broken or missing fog lights, missing caps, etc. It's probably worth the asking price, but it's in OK shape, no better.

The second one is in much better shape, but I'd pass just because of the C&C t-tops.

Agreed...I would hate to own C&C t-tops.

Re: A Good Deal?

I had a 267 V8 in a 1980 Malibu 4dr... I cammed it, put an aluminum Weind intake on it with a 4bbl, tinted the windows and cleaned it up decent. It didn't have any exhaust after the cat, and it drove people nuts. Every red neck feces eater in town revved up their Flowmaster equipped hot rod when they saw that thing. It got really annoying. It was dog *** slow and I didn't even beat on it around town, but morons thought it had something serious in it. Have fun with the tiny V8's just don't forget just because it's got some bark doesn't mean it has any bite.

My buddy in college had a 267 in his '82 Impala. It was terrible, especially with 2.41 gears. My best memory of it was me driving it while he took some B&W "action" photos of it in an empty parking lot for his photography class. He had me run it in a circle as tight as I could, and all of a sudden the RR started to actually spin He couldn't believe it...he yelled at me to do it again.

In my home office, today, I have a B&W hanging up of that Impala leaning to the left, smoking the RR in that parking lot Ahh, memories. I think (and pray) an LT4 hot-cammed, Vortec headed 305 will have some real bite to it, but time will tell. I will be surpassing L98 specs (at least for HP)...time will tell if I can get it to a stock LT1 timeslip. If I can, awesome. If I can't, then at least it should be a lot more fun on the street...

Re: A Good Deal?

I know you already know, but you'll spend more money keeping that 305 then swapping to a 350. A couple gaskets and left over old school V8 parts from a buddies junk bin is all a 305 (or similar, 267, 307, etc) is worth investing. I've had a bunch of 305's and I'm not a hater, they're just like handi-capping yourself at the gate and there are already too many slow thirdgens out there.

Re: A Good Deal?

Its got plenty of re-painting on it. Note the poor masking around the emblems (the NJ car).

I'm aware of what you're saying. I will have $1,700 invested in parts, whereas I could get a used 350 for $500 and spend $1,000 on it and get the same or better performance, as well as better potential in the future. I guess I want to see what this little 305 can do. If I can really boost it into the upper 200hp range, close to 300, then to me its worth not pulling the motor. It also satisfies the fact that I've always been more of a purist than a mod fiend. I know carbing it takes away from originality, but I will be saving all the parts for down the road.

I may try learning EBL first, and going that route. I've seen on the TBI board some 305s getting low 14s to 14 flat, going a similar route as me. It'll at least be fun to see what I get out of it, but as I said in another thread, I really think I should paint my TA first. Modding the 305 may not happen for awhile, or even at all...my TA is more deserving of paint than dumping more money in the RS that I won't get back.
