Judging from the hood, wheels, tail lights, leather appointments package, etc... Yep, that's an S/E.

For $1500, that seller must be on some STRONG substances... That's like a $500 car as-is; MAX.

Re: Is this a post 84 Firebird S/E?

To me it looks like an 85-90 base firebird with 85-90 T/A tailights and hood, and base 15" dished diamond spoke wheels like they put on some of the later Birds. Did they put those tails and that hood on post 84' S/Es? I have never actually seen an S/E after 84'. Makes me wonder if I've overlooked some rare birds thinking they were just mismatched parts cars.

You pretty much just described what a '85-86 Firebird S/E looks like! There are some subtle differences like the S/E hood doesn't have the vents near the windshield and the tail light center piece is different.

Except the hood and tail lights, which are stock.

Read the thread... it explains what makes S/Es different.

Re: Is this a post 84 Firebird S/E?

excuse my ignorance, but whats special about the tail light center section? Looks like standard stuff to me, I knew about the hood, always was interested in making my t/a hood up like this but the time to do it would be killer.

Re: Is this a post 84 Firebird S/E?

Silver chicken instead of the usual red chicken... Nothing significant. The S/E is just an upgraded Firebird, somewhere between a Firebird and a Trans Am. The differences are mostly cosmetic, the interior has a few nice improvements, and if I remember correctly the suspension is at least level II. It wasn't really popular because it didn't really make the car any faster then a similar Firebird, and it didn't offer anything over the Trans Am. In a way it morphed into the Formula to cash in on the performance image.

Re: Is this a post 84 Firebird S/E?

Yea I didn't think there was much, I know a few years prior it was the first to get the MPFI v6 compared to regular birds if I remember correctly, but other than that on other years it didn't do much. Thanks, good to see some of these cars still exist.

Re: Is this a post 84 Firebird S/E?

Interesting - Just did a quick search online and found a few of 'em. They've got a T/A hood w/o the rear/side vents...

Still an odd duck if you ask me. Were these cars their own model or just an RPO?

The reflector part still has the word "PONTIAC" on it since the S/E didn't have it molded into the bumper cover like the Trans Am did.

The MPFI V6 debuted in 1985. It wasn't specific to the Firebird S/E. All Camaros and Firebirds got them at the same time.

They were their own model. The 5th digit in the VIN number will be X for a Firebird S/E.

Re: Is this a post 84 Firebird S/E?

I thought '84 debuted FI on the V6 for the S/E, becoming standard on all in '85. I swear I read it somewhere thinking that I'm suprised they didn't use it on the Berlinetta in the same fashion. Let me see if I can find where I read that.

Re: Is this a post 84 Firebird S/E?

I retract my previous statement, I know I read it somewhere, but can't figure out where. Probably a mis-print if anything.

No idea what the guy's talking about...it's the standard bumper that's on every 1985-90 base model Firebird and Formula.

I fully expected to see an aftermarket Knight Rider bumper after reading that though, but nope.
