Players car spotted in Canada

I just spotted this players car in a suburb of Vancouver, BC Canada at a show last month. It was the first one I had seen in this close to original condition. Here is some pics. Enjoy!

There are several Players Cars in the Vancouver area... I think there were 3 at the Cruise In.

What's the black box on the right hand side of the engine bay, in the second pic?

Are you talking about the box behind the AC delete pulley? It's part of the AIR system.

Re: Players car spotted in Canada

Thanks for the reply. The AIR system on my 88 model is different, didn't recognise it..

Is the strut tower brace from the factory?

Is there a list of specifications for the Players Specials?

The strut tower brace on this car was an aftermarket Edelbrock. I am not sure if it was an allowed mod to the cars back when they were racing or if this owner just added it after the fact. I waited for a while for the owner to show up at the car show but they did not come by. Must have been looking at the 400 other cars there. I really wanted to talk to the owner.

Also, at the same show was this low mileage 87 IROC in mint condition. The car was perfect. Had only 23,000 km on it which is about 14K miles.

That black IROC was beautiful, too.

No offense on the black IROC-Z, but it's not perfect! It has the incorrect door moldings for an 87. It does look good and still has the original tires.

From looking at the IROC in person I would of guessed a repaint, honestly. The paint was beautiful.

Good catch! I did not notice that. I wonder if that low mileage beauty had a fender bender some time in its life that prompted the change in the moldings. Still was a very nice car.

Yeah, the A/C went out in the IROC and I have not gotten around to fixing it yet. It's no fun taking a non-AC car out for a drive in the AZ summer. I will be coming out of hibernation soon. Since we are now starting to dip below 100.

Re: Players car spotted in Canada

It's also possible that the car didn't come with the door moldings. In that case, either the owner added them later to protect the doors and didn't know there was a difference or the car was a leftover at the dealer and when he bought it, told the dealer to add them. At that point, the 88s were out and the dealer put the incorrect molding on because they rarely have a clue!!! Last option is that the owner likes the 88 up style better and didn't think anyone would ever know. Guess we fooled him, huh?

Re: Players car spotted in Canada

People are strange, I had a guy come to me once right from the dealer with a 88 vette, he wanted the whole car color sanded and buffed to remove the factory orange peel. So he may have added the mouldings or had the paint touched up in some way, really nice car either way.

Re: Players car spotted in Canada

I wouldn't say that is strange. I did the same thing when I got my car. The body shop I took it to said that they wouldn't touch it because of the late 80's paint issues and that it would affect the original value. He said that the factory finish, as bad as it is, is just that and it should be left alone.

If that was the Langley Cruise In, then yes. Though since you said only 400 other cars, I had my doubts, being I think the Cruise In had closer to 1000.

Re: Players car spotted in Canada

My dad has an 85 Z28 TPI with 30k original miles. The car is totally stock and in outstanding condition. However, when car was about 2 years old in 87 he took it to a local body shop to have some rock chips taken care of in the front bumper cover. When they repainted the bumper cover they painted the headlight buckets gloss black instead of matte black. He liked the gloss some much he kept it that way. He still has the car today.

People did make subtle changes to the original cars when they were new. My dad never would have thought he would still have this car today.

Good eye Scott, that one got by me because I've owned 91's and 92's for so long now!!! What year did they go away from those gay thin black ones?

I hear you, my 91's took a dump in mid-summer so I just said F*** it and bought a new compressor not a rebuilt junk, new drier, accumulator, the whole nine, it was destined to blow after seeing all the debris that the whatchamacallit tube had collected in the line, That 3" long white plastic dealeo in the line, you know what I mean, the name is on the tip of my tongue, but I always forget the name!!! lol... " Orifice Tube" got it.
Then I did my 134 change over, what the hell right?, its working like a champ, oh yeah, the fan motor took a dump, got a new one at O'rielly for $16.00, how can you beat that!!!! See you at Pav's soon,
Mike

If you aren't selling the car, it doesn't matter. Do what you want. But if you want to sell and you want the highest dollar possible, originality helps.
