Stock Telegraph machine on an IROC??

Just saw this video of this sick all stock 87 IROC.

The rear hatch has this stock electronic motor driven latching system that I never knew existed. Very cool!! but that's not all...

The T top center bar has a weird telegraph gadget thing that is also from the factory. Never heard of that!

There is also a cool leather pouch on the roof that holds a flashlight with a Camaro logo.

Either I'm new to all this or this is one rare car. Cool video either way.

Hatch motor is common. I thought it was standard actually.....

Overhead console was a relatively rare option. the "Telegraph" thing was just an odometer gadget. So you could do your own trip calculations I guess...

LED flashlight eh? These cars were a lot more advanced than I thought.....

Nothing rare about those. Just a part of the overhead console, if the car got one.

telegraph....That is funny. They were dials just to record things.

The power pulldown, IIRC, was introduced in 86.

Console, roof 1984 to 1987 (According to the Camaro White Book there were nearly 90,000 produced; add the number installed in Birds and the total number would be considerable. The flashlights either had a Camaro or Firebird logo). The OE flash light, of course, contains a regular bulb.

James I may have asked this before and apologize if so. My '83 Z28 is a late June (3rd week) build and when I bought her she had an overhead console. Now I figured it was added since they weren't officially available until the '84s. This was until I was going to replace it several years ago since it was cracked. When I took it down the headliner was cutout and had the correct mounting studs (these two together no big deal) The thing that has me thinking early release is the center bar is factory stamped with the console cutouts like for the maplight. My '83 has every option except for LS Conteur seats/Camaro special seats/door panels. Have you ever seen or heard of late '83s having the overhead console?

I haven't, but little about GM surprises me. The following, for a bit more info, is from the 84 section of the White Book:

"The Berlinetta interior also included a roof console, but it could be purchased with Sport Coupe and Z28 Sport Coupe models as RPO DK6."

James thank you for the quick response. And you're right GM does some odd things when it comes to option releases and packaging. They are almost as bad as ChryCo at times. I wish I could have found a build sheet but no luck so far. I've had most of the interior out at one time or another but I know it's not guarantee to ever be there (I was lucky finding one in my '70 Monte Carlo SS). When I bought my first White Book (somehow lost it) I had hopes it would say something at least in the notes. Maybe someday I'll find a build sheet in an oddball place in her.

Re: Stock Telegraph machine on an IROC??

"Telegraph machine"? Really? Like everyone else said, it's just a free-rolling roller with nothing connected to it. Actually kinda disappointing after I finally got a hold of an overhead console. I was hoping it would be something more useful.
