questions about 92 bird, is it a base or formula
i have a 92 Firebird, it has a 305 TBI, 700R4 tranny, 120 mph speedo, plain hood, T-tops, stand up spoiler (not the TA or formula spoiler) turbine style rims, cloth interior w/ cup holders and orange birds on map pocket and center caps... it's been painted so no decals, but there was a bird on the hood, poor paint job can see outline and adhesive under paint,
i ran the VIN and it indicates base/ formula V8 auto
AL. title said firebird firebird
IL. DMV says its a formula
body shop guy asked when he looked at it "V6? no, hmm thats wierd"
could this be some deal of base but with other options? and will the RPO sheet tell me more info on exacts right. haven't remove center consule yet.
thanks for your time...

As you have a 1992, the SPID will be located on the inside lid of the storage compartment that's located in the back-left of the vehicle. The SPID was moved there, from the center console, mid-1991.
Look for RPO code W66 on the SPID as that designates the Formula option. Both Formula and Base Firebird share the same 1G2FS VIN prefix, so that alone does not indicate which one.
If the SPID is missing, you should be able to contact your local GM dealer and get a listing of the SPID contents if you provide the VIN.

the base firebird/camaro were all available with a v8. nothing odd about it.

Yeah, look up the SPID codes (in that year it is usually inside the lid of that little locking compartment on the drivers side hatch area). The VIN does not tell you and many places online and DMV's have it say "base/Formula" because that VIN code is used on both.
The other immediate way to tell is if the car has or has had ground effects. Formula's that year have no ground effects, the base line cars did. The flat hood makes me think base as well. Formula's have a bulge hood that is purely for looks.

Base model 91 and 92 birds could be had without ground effects. I have only ever seen maybe two, but I assure you that they do exist.

thank you all for your posts it really helps. I haven't looked yet for the SPID...
it does and do believe always had ground effects, I figured that the base vehicle didn't come with power everything, but again power isn't even an option anymore.
i did spend a bit of time this weekend replacing all the bushings, shocks and coil springs in the rear suspension and I do believe I have seen a 20 year old shock. and that is why i can spin the tires until I let off the go pedal hehe not anymore..
again thanks... now to figure out how to do a ghost bird on the hood...
