What should I pay for this 85 IROC?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but it seemed fitting. I found an 85 IROC on Craigslist for $8000.00 it has 98,586 original miles, paint and body are both great, interior is amazing, just two very small cracks on the dash, it's a LB9 with TPI, auto trans. That's about all I think that would be needed to know, if there is anything else I should ask about it or need to know, please tell me. Oh, power everything. The owners said it sat in an airplane hangar for eight years before they bought it and they say it still runs like a champ. I took these pics, so I saw it myself and was impressed. But do any of you think it's worth 8k? Any input appreciated and again, sorry if I posted this in the wrong section. ...sorry, just noticed I can't attach pics from my phone. I will work on putting pics up but in the mean time, please give some advice. Thanks!

I agree. I'd pay 4K maybe 5K and not a penny more.

Re: What should I pay for this 85 IROC?

If the car is mint besides the "higher" mileage, I don't think that the price is horrible for a first year IROC-Z and the best 305 TPI Auto that there was. It better be in fabulous original shape everywhere though. See if they'll do $7,000 and go from there.

Re: What should I pay for this 85 IROC?

Don't be so quick to jump at the mileage issue. I have a 2006 Silverado with 115k miles on it. The paint looks new and so does the interior. I replace parts on it before they break based on the life of the part. A typical 2006 Silverado Z71 will sell for less than mine because most people don't take care of their stuff. Most people think my truck is only a year old or so, but it's reaching seven. Back in the 80's, there were still a lot of road salesman, so this car could have racked up 40k miles in one year! The condition of the car would reflect that it's near perfect when the miles are all highway.

Not quite mint or that close to it. Negotiate some, there are cosmetic issues for you to pick on.

I see a $5k-$6k car in need of a $4k paint job.

Re: What should I pay for this 85 IROC?

thats a pretty nice car, at least its not molested or customized in any obvious ways. thats a turn on with how it still looks pretty factory. BUT i dont see 8k with those cosmetic issues or that miliage, because i have found like condition irocs in the 2,600-4,500 range. iv seen actual mint ones with damn near no miles go for the lower end of 8k. the most i would probably go is 3,500 on that one but im cheap so keep that in mind as well lol. now if it were a particular one im actualy "hunting" for, well is worth what ever someone is willing to pay.

Looks like a cool car, but $8K is a little high considering it's cosmetic needs. If it is mechanically perfect, $5-$6K seems about right.

I agree with the majority here. Around $3500 to $4000 would be a good buy, $5000 would be as high as I would go if it were exactly the year and trim I'd been looking for.

Re: What should I pay for this 85 IROC?

Its a nice car. But I agree with other members comments on the price. Its should come down in to the $3,000 - $4,000 range.

What would you like to do with the car? Are you going to modify it? Are you going clean it up and fix it up back up to stock?

Re: What should I pay for this 85 IROC?

I believe '85 didn't have clear coat, so the paint could probably be buffed out. $8k does seem a little steep though, I've seen 50k mile cars go for that much.

Re: What should I pay for this 85 IROC?

You know, this is exactly the kind of car I'm attracted to. Unmolested, all there, rust free, just needing some TLC, (that stuff is fun for me). Interior looks nice as well.

Don't let us dissuade you from buying this car. Looks pretty solid from the pics.

Re: What should I pay for this 85 IROC?

Ya I like the fact that its the first year IROC-Z. If I did get it, I would keep it as stock as possible and just restore it. You know, fresh paint, new lenses but I would not alter it at all. I still haven't got around to bargaining the price with them. Im not too sure if its even still available. Last I talked to them, it was taken off craigslist because it had passed the 45 days, but was still for sale. I don't know if I will get it though. I would love to if I had an extra $4500.00 lying around but I don't. I think I might just stick with my little Tahoe for now and put that money into my current project!

Re: What should I pay for this 85 IROC?

IMO that is not a $8k car at all. I just got my 87 TA WS6, LB9 auto 100 rust free, some small dings and scraches, 90% perfect inside, new tires and ALT with 49500 Miles for alot less that that car, sure I had to dump aother $1500ish in it right off the bat to getting it running good, but I'm still in my car alot less than that IROC. There are clean, low mileage 3rd gen's out there for alot less so I would not even think of paying more than $4k for that car. As I have learned, cars that have sat have alot of issues that come out as soon as you start drivng them again.
