Contradicting RPO codes?
Contradicting RPO codes?
I was checking through RPO codes for my 1984 Trans Am.
found that the Special Edition Recaro package was y84(which I do not have
But I also found Recaro Seats (RPO- Aq9) which I found on my RPO sheet...
It says it was only available with the Recaro T/A option. Don't believe my seats are Recaros either, but may have been swapped?
Any help?

Re: Contradicting RPO codes?
Dumb question here but first does the vin on your code sheet match your car?
its very easy to swap the console pad,
then - as far as i know for 1984 recaro seats only came in the recaro edition, all of them had tan interior
regular seats were AR9
But i did hear of some 85's having a recaro seat option even with the recaro edition no longer being offered.
here is a pic of a recaro seat from an 82 that i swapped in my 84 trans am

Re: Contradicting RPO codes?
My 1984 literature shows that AQ9 is "Lear Seigler" seats and was available for the Firebird, Trans Am and S/E. It shows the Recaro seats as T/A only.
However, I have two build sheets from 1984, both for Y82s. One shows AQ9 as "R/L L/SEIGLER" while the other shows AQ9 as "P/D RECARO".

Soooo Kicking myself, I was at a junkyard, (has to be 9 years ago now) but they had a Recaro Trans Am, and it had the seats, they were trashed, but I am sure someone could have fixed them up... They were Tan.

Re: Contradicting RPO codes?
RPO AQ9 was the code shared with both the multi-adjustable Lear Siegler seats and the Recaro seats.
From '82-84 RPO Y84 Black Special Edition Trans Am option would trigger the Recaro seat install. I'm not sure how it was done from '85-86 as the Recaro seat option was reduced to an interior option and was available on any color Trans Am that could be combined with a tan interior.

Re: Contradicting RPO codes?
When the Recaro T/A disappeared, the optional Recaro seats were RPO code AS5. But that does not appear to be the case for the T/A Recaro edition as that code is not found. I see no specific code for it.
It does appear that AQ9 was shared, as evident by the build sheets for two different 1984s having two different definitions. I seem to recall a discussion about it from another member, too.
Therefore, to the OP, is it possible that you have the Lear Siegler seats and not the Recaros?
