Confused on submodels...
I'm confused, are there 2 submodels (iroc and z28) are they the same or different? I see the same people mention both in some threads, but my dads 87 camaro has a Iroc Z28 emblem on the dash.
Can someone explain this?

Re: Confused on submodels...
For 1987, since it varies through the years, the IROC was a option on top of the Z28. All 1987 IROCs will have both the Z28 RPO and B4Z RPO code. So, all IROCs are 87 are Z28s, but not all Z28s are IROCs.

Chevrolet lost the IROC name licensing in early 1990, at which point all 1990 F-Body production ceased. The only Camaro models available for 1991-92 were the RS and the Z28.

Yep. And there was no standalone Z28 model available from 1988-90; at that point, the IROC was renamed the IROC-Z.

I'll summarize this for the entire thirdgen years. The Z28 was available from 1982-1992. In 1985-1987, The IROC-Z was an upgrade on the Z28 only. You could order a Z28 or you could order a Z28 with the IROC-Z option (RPO B4Z). In 1988, Chevrolet was downsizing the sub model lineup and decided that a Sport Coupe and Z28 were the only cars needed. All Z28s now carried the IROC-Z appearance package, but it was no longer considered an upgrade. This lasted until 1990 when the I.R.O.C. license expired. The 1991 and 1992 Z28 received a different ground effects and spoiler to provide a difference between the older style associated with the IROC-Z and the newer Z28 styling. Hope this helps.
