1985 Iroc-z, 5 speed, t-top, lots of pictures opinions?

Hello, I have an opportunity to bring this car home after recently selling my 89 convertible. The car came from Idaho and seems fairly clean. It runs and drives great.

It has 42k on the clock assuming it to be 142k.
Seems rust free
It is an Lg4 car, 5 speed, t-top
Seems all original

I just want to post some pictures to see if you guys notice things I did not. There are small scratches here and there. Don't have many posts here but in the 5 third gens I have owned you guys always have the answers someplace.

What kind of money do you think it should bring?

Thanks appreciate any comments.

From the pics, looks like a really nice car. I'd believe 42K miles.

It's a nice car. A detailing session would work wonders on that car.

It's just too bad it has the LG4 motor instead of the L69 or LB9.

He was asking 7 for it last year when I first found the car. He changed his mind about selling it and I held on to his phone number and recently got back in contact. He said he is still looking for around 6500 if he was to sell it.

Sounds fair. I'd also believe the 42k mileage claim.

If all is good it's a steal at that price. I never find deals like that.

That's a good looking car. I'd believe the 42K mileage also. Everything appears to be stock, clean, and in pretty good shape. Price sounds decent if it drives like it looks.
Don't most t-top boddies have a hatch release button on the console?

Looks every bit of 42K original to me. Nice original unmolested car! Great options too it looks like (with the exception of the LG4, but you couldn't get TPI with a 5 spd in '85 anyway).

Sounds like a STEAL at $6500!

Seats have been recovered, but otherwise looks pretty original. Those are the "oem style" seat upholstery covers they offer on Classic, I think. Very nice car.

Looks like it has only 42k to me and $6500 does not seem too bad. Sucks it's an Lg4, but being a 5-speed and T-tops I can over look that.

Uh, those are correct fabric for an 85. I doubt those are recovered, assuming 42k miles is accurate.

Take a good, close look at them. They should be the same fabric as the door panels, which is a tweed-type of material. Those seats appear to be a velour with diagonal stripe pattern to mimic the door panels, if you look closely, which is exactly what the classic covers do. I am quite certain those are recovered. Unless, of course, if there was an oem velour that mimicked those door panels, but to the best of my knowledge they should be the same tweed material.

They look original to me. The only thing non-stock in that picture is the shifter ball. Even has the original mats with the rubber GM logo.

What is wrong with the shift ball? Some were black plastic, but I do not know what was the reason other than an upgraded interior should have had leather?

Thats cool. When you get her home post up some pics please. 5-speed IROC's in good shape that are 100% stock are getting hard to find now.

The seats shown are correct. 1985-1986 Custom cloth seats have the diagonal velour material. I have the black custom cloth in my 85 and I can attest to this. The later years, Im assuming 88 and up, have the tweed (burlap bag) type material. I have seen the imitation classic industries covers you are talking about. Theyre not even close lol.

98blackandchrome, congrats man! Youre gonna love your 85 IROC-Z!

Re: 1985 Iroc-z, 5 speed, t-top, lots of pictures opinions?

Got the car home this morning. The two hour drive really did a number on it. Got some hot soap and water and it cleaned up well for now. Still some soap in spots in the pictures. Its not perfect has some door dings and some scratches but its by the far the nicest one I have owned so far. Now the long wait for nice weather.

Hello 98blacknchrome !!!

Nice car, great find !!

A few years ago, I too found a third gen with low mileage. 1987 Camaro Z-28 with 55,000 kms (34,000 miles approx) , but had bad paint(delamination), and required a fuel pump !!!

Paid only $4000.00 !!!

Again, great find, enjoy !!!

Only takes a few bolt on parts to bring it up to their power levels...

Considering how few of the L69 and LB9 cars are out there these days, the LG4 can be a smart move.

Re: 1985 Iroc-z, 5 speed, t-top, lots of pictures opinions?

Yes it can be done very easily. If you are trying to keep the car stock and original as possible, however, it may be a wise move to look for a car that has the L69 or LB9 motor in it already. Only having 150hp is going to get old fast lol. I really wish that GM only put the L69, LU5, LB9 or L98 motors in the factory high performance thirdgens or at least bumped up the LG4 motor powerwise to L69 levels when the L69 started getting put on restriction in 1985.

Only takes a few bolt on parts to bring it up to their power levels...

Considering how few of the L69 and LB9 cars are out there these days, the LG4 can be a smart move.

I really wish that GM only put the L69, LU5, LB9 or L98 motors in the factory high performance thirdgens or at least bumped up the LG4 motor powerwise to L69 levels when the L69 started getting put on restriction in 1985.
Hello yaj15 !!

If he really wants to get any more HP with that LG4, he can always rework the motor's internals, looks stock, but goes better than stock !!!

Re: 1985 Iroc-z, 5 speed, t-top, lots of pictures opinions?

I agree that's a 42K mile car. Nothing wrong with the interior. That's a factory 82C interior if I ever saw one. If it were 142K the drivers outer seat bolsters would be shredded from constant getting in/out of the car. Now on to the shifter ball. I think it should be leather too. What denotes getting a leather shift ball vs. non leather on an '85-'86 Z28? Btw great looking car and congrats on your purchase!

All IROC-Zs had the leather shift ball, steering wheel and e-brake handle.
