verifying corect vin

i was wondering if there was any way to verify weather or not the vin on my car is correct. the vin calls it a v6 car, but there are signs that might not be the case. so my question is are there any other numbers stamped somplace that would tell me anything, all the rpo codes are long gone so thats out of the question. thanks for any help!

Re: verifying corect vin

On the front of a V8, on the RH side, behind the alternator there is a "Hog" that has the last digits of the VIN stamped into the Block.

BTW, If the VIN says it is a V6, then it would have been a V6 from the factory.

I purchased a 1983 Camaro with a 1987 Trans Am Engine, trans and interior installed... By looking at the car and engine bay no one would have known that it was not the original engine.

well but it looks like the windshield was taken out at one point for whatever reason and figured the possibility could be there that they swaped vins for whatever reason. the engine and trans a very much not stock or even era correct. not that i really care if it was originaly a v6 but i was just intrestred to see if it was in fact a v6 car or was somthin else, i doubt its anything special if its more then a v6 car cuz i dont have that kinda luck. its all just outta curiosity more then anything.

I think you answered your own question. "the engine and trans a very much not stock or even era correct" It was a V6 that someone installed a V8... Not uncommon, if I had a V6 car I would do the same unless it was a Turbo.

Sounds to me that you have a V6 car that has been made into a racecar I would move on, and enjoy it. Obviously the car under your name is a 1986 350 car with a TH350 trans... the only year for a 3 speed Auto trans with a V8 in a 3rd gen was 1982.
