Correct cruise control lever
He everyone, I have been looking for a NOS CC lever for my 1987 Iroc. It works perfect but the white lettering is wearing off. All the CC levers I find are the later 1988-1990 ones with the lip just under the resume slider. Any ideas where to find one?

Maybe for someone that does professional pinstriping...I dunno about you, but I can't perfectly paint lettering. If you know anyone, let me know, I need to replace my mirror switch for the same reason (works fine, just all of the print is gone).

Usually with something engraved you don't have to be perfect. Put paint on it, and wipe off the excess and the paint should stay in the engraved part. Sometimes you need to let it dry a little and wipe off the excess. It's worth a try.

Re: Correct cruise control lever
Thanks for the responses. I don't "think" my lever has any engraving on it. But I'll check, on the other hand I cant paint worth a flip.

Re: Correct cruise control lever
I just checked the lever on my 82 TA. The outer part of the switch is engraved (the part with the cruise control function) but the middle part is not. Oddly enough, on my switch, the engraved parts are the ones that are worn. Your switch might be different.

Re: Correct cruise control lever
If memory serves There was 3 generations of turn signal handle... each generation had a cruise option and an option without cruise.
82-83 - Type 1, - 3 wires IIRC for cruise...
84-87 - Type 2, With cruise there was more electronics on these, and used less vacuum, - These were similar to the 82 & 83 as the went through the column, but they added a wire for the cruise control, they tended to work better than the earlier type.
88-92 - Type 3, essentially the same system as the 84-87 BUT the connector for the handle was up top in a little removable box, instead of the wire going through the column.
Do not take my word for it, but I believe that GM used the same cruise turn signal levers for every model for any particular year... The difference was some were all black (like our cars) and some had chrome pieces.

Re: Correct cruise control lever
I am not sure if they are the same handle or not... I know that the 4th gens (at least 1995) the turn signal is on a 30° Angle verses the Horizontal 3rd Gen type... They may be, but I just do not know...

Re: Correct cruise control lever
I've been looking for a yellow turn signal lever for 8 years. I have yet to find one. I was thinking of contacting 1a auto to see if there is any way if getting this stuff reproduced.

Great picture! Mine is White (of Course) but my 1987 does not have that ledge of plastic under the slider to resume cruise. Anybody have an NOS 1987 cruise???

Re: Correct cruise control lever
What do ya know. Another cruise lever thread, and it ends with discussing the yellow one with people trying to sell theirs. Just like my cruise discussion.
cmk-2 To answer your question, they are hard to find. Depending on how patient you are, they pop up on ebay from time to time. Most I see with correct white lettering have the "fat" stalk between the washer paddle and the steering column. But like I said, I eventually found mine online. A correct GM nos part. Apologies for not knowing the part number off hand. As for the ledge under the cruise button, I am not sure. The one I have happens to have it. The rest of the stalk is correct. Good luck in your search.
