FACTORY keyless entry in any third gen cars?
I have seen the threads on how to convert to the 4th gen keyless entry system.
What I am curious if any third gen was offered from the factory with keyless entry. The reason I ask is because I picked this piece up. Seller claimed it was from a 1987 Pontiac Trans Am or 1989 Trans Am (possible the TTA) My dad and I have 12 third gen firebirds between the two of us and neither of us have seen anything like it.
Anyone ever seen one like this? Anyone have any info (programming, etc)
Thanks.

No third gen. had them, must be fourth gen or aftermarket.

Re: FACTORY keyless entry in any third gen cars?
Definitely aftermarket/custom. Early 4th gens had the standard molded black plastic rectangular one with the arrowhead or bowtie imprint like this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/PONTIAC-REMOTE-KEYLESS-FOB-CONTROL-TRANSMITTER-GQ43VT1-ENTRY-PHOB-CLICKER-KEYFOB-/230916975074?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A1993%7CModel%3AFirebird&hash=item35c3b969e2&vxp=mtr
later 4th gen's had the standard oval generic GM ones like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-GM-KEYLESS-ENTRY-REMOTE-KEY-FOB-TRANSMITTER-CLICKER-BEEPER-ALARM-16245100-29-/300921996639?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A2002%7CModel%3AFirebird&hash=item461059455f&vxp=mtr
Not even the Corvette had keyless til '93, and even then, it was that stupid automatic/proximity system that never worked and just caused the doors to constantly lock/unlock anytime the fob's in range of the car.

That was a GM Goodwrench option. I have the keyless entry and alarm in my 89 IROC.

My 89 had one also. Different keypad though. Was a dark grey with a 1 and 11 buttons and a little red lite.
Also have the box under the dash with the key that locks the hood and trunk and kills the ignition when turned on. I forget what its called.

Re: FACTORY keyless entry in any third gen cars?
I had one installed on my 92 when I bought it new and already had one installed on my 72 Monte Carlo.
For several years, replacement fobs had the Code Alarm logo on them.

Re: FACTORY keyless entry in any third gen cars?
I think GM keyless entry systems during the 3rd Gen era were dealer installed.
FWIW, I picked this up off ebay back in '09 for $80. I was browsing for power door lock switches for my '92 Lumina and stumbled across it.
I think it's around '95 or '96 vintage; the installation instructions have wiring diagram references for '95 and '96 MY cars and trucks. It's a pretty universal kit.
Two button remotes; lock, unlock, panic (both buttons). Might be other features but I think it's pretty basic.
Just thumbing through the install instructions, it looks like an electricians nightmare. I can see where these kinds of installs can go bad really fast if it's just slapped in.

My wife's 87 Formula has a code alarm, and the remote looks almost identical to the pictures of the one paulo57509 posted... It just says Code Alarm, instead of GM... It locks and unlocks the door, has an alarm... it honks the horn instead of a siren tho...

Re: FACTORY keyless entry in any third gen cars?
To be honest, I'd be surprised if the GM Goodwrench dealer-ad on had unique fobs for Pontiac, Chevy, etc. I would expect them to be more generic like the one that Paulo posted.
I can't help but think that this is more likely to be tied to a factory option, maybe on the Pontiac 6000. I had a buddy that had a 6,000 that was loaded with crap I had never seen from a car of that period, including a Heads-Up Display. I think it had factory keyless entry too.
Edit: It was the 6000 STE.

Re: FACTORY keyless entry in any third gen cars?
I recently purchased the same kit on eBay brand new for $1.00. I felt bad for the guy and almost told him to keep it! I too looked at the instructions and at first thought what a nightmare. However, there is a lot of stuff you don't or can't really hook up. Get a few relays and this thing is good to go. I still haven't put it in though.

You sure it wasn't a Bonneville or Grand Prix? IIRC, those are the only Pontiac cars that had HUD.

GM VSS 201, P/N 12344680; Manufacturer - Solved
I was wondering if perhaps GM would have just bought aftermarket kits and just put their name on them.
I opened up whatever black boxes that could be opened up to see if there was any manufacturer's name etched into the PCA's. Nothing.
There were price-tag like stickers on them with date codes of Dec 30, 1996.
I Googled that patent number that was on the schematic label attached to the back of the receiver box (Pat. No. 5049867). The number was assigned to Code-Alarm. Good call!

BTW, if any of you guys have these kits new-in-the-box, open the remotes and remove the batteries. I was surprised to find them loaded with a battery from the factory. Naturally they're dead. Luckily, they didn't leak.

In case anyone is interested.
Receiver/Control box:
Five relays means five different functions. Cutting the three jumpers in the lower right corner of the PCA will give you different functions. IIRC, lock on ignition on, unlock on ignition off and lock/unlock delay.

I know they had keyless entry as far back as 1990... My buick Riviera had it... Nice one too, 4 buttons, Lock, Unlock, trunk, and one to light up the interior... it would have made more sense to have it unlatch the gas door, but oh well...

Re: FACTORY keyless entry in any third gen cars?
So what's the chance someone on here has the install/programming manual for the VSS-201/200 kit that is mentioned above? I purchased one brand new off of eBay and the kit is complete except there are no installation instructions. I've called the local GM dealership with no luck, googled till my fingers were sore. Really would like to get the instructions for the kit and I'm willing to tip with PayPal if someone can scan their's, etc. GM kit part numbers are 12343515 and 12344680
Thanks a ton in advance,
Brian

Re: FACTORY keyless entry in any third gen cars?
You are correct, I don't have a Camaro, there are actually some similarities between the two vehicles because of the engine platform that was common for the V-6 model's. I am that desperate though to try and find some help so I took a chance posting here.

You asked about the VSS-100 back in June of this year. Nothing has changed since then.
