That's interesting, was it a dealer installed option? I have never saw an RPO for that.

I don't think you had it installed. You just got a cell phone from them.
I just got it off ebay. When it shows up I will read the paperwork.
This is a NOS phone that was never sold and still powers up, for what that is worth. I would think in the mid 1980's a cell would have cost alot and then you had to pay for the service ever month. Maybe the GM dealer sold them cheaper to get people to pay for the service even month.

That can't be from the 80s!
Sure its a branded GM nokia 100 phone.
Cell phones from the 80s were big giant things.
My dad had one of those giant brick phones.
He also had the phone "in the bag" with a external antenna in his truck.

that looks just like something I once saw in a hummer, that's early to mid 90s stuff, certainly not 80s tech.

OK, as I had a bag phone also in 1990. I didn't get the cell because the bag phone had more power to send and recieve calls. Cell phones at that time wasn't very big. But not small like they are now.
Add stated GM start selling them in 1988 thru around 1993.
I will take the box and phone to the GM deal in town when it shows up to see what they can tell me.

It was an aftermarket option offered from 1988+ on almost any GM car or truck. This phone looks to be from the late 90's or early 00's.

This came new with my '89. Though I believe the cellular phone was a dealer extra (I know the local Chevy dealer used to run a cellular phone business as well)

You guys might be thinking of this one. My Dad used to have this same phone attached to an '88 Ford pickup truck.

Or go retro ... brick design with new technology (3 month standby time ... 28 hours talk time ... or get the XXL version with 6 month standby and 2 days talk time ...)

Not sure if it will be available in the US or not

The Nokia phone looks like a mid to late 90s model judging by the size. Still interesting though, never knew GM put its name on a cell phone, factory or not.

Yea that Nokia is 90's. Motorola was Mid+80s like the one shown in the TA above, had one in pickup, also had a Motorola Bag phone.
