Battery Question
Hey Everyone,
The battery in my 1LE is getting weak. It's the 2nd battery the car has had, and the previous owner actually had the decal from the original battery removed and placed on this one many years ago. I recently bought a repro label, but the new Delco batteries have the two removable caps, not the flat style type. Does anyone know if thee is a battery type that has the same physical type top as the originals?

Thanks!
Erik

Re: Battery Question
East Penn makes the same style flat top batteries (75 series) but without the "green eye" on them.
http://www.dekabatteries.com/
Napa, Sears and others get their batteries from there with their own labels on them.
Bye the way do you have a better high resolution photo of the decal on yours we can keep as a reference for those of us that had that same 601 battery from the factory.

Re: Battery Question
Wow, that looks great! Thanks for putting up the pics and the info, I really appreciate it! Yes, i'll snap some better pics of the label and send them over to you. I asked my friend who does high end decals if he could make some based on it, he said he thought so.

Re: Battery Question
Out of curiosity, what did you use to remove the old labels? Heat gun or just peel them off at ambient temperature? Thanks!

Re: Battery Question
Warm them slightly with a heat gun. The glue will release enough to come off without much effort. Just make sure you keep the heat gun moving and use it on a low setting or you will melt the label.

Re: Battery Question
On the new battery I bought (pictured above); the labels just pulled off with no effort at all.
Send me some good pictures of yours when you got it off, or put it in your scanner if possible.

Re: Battery Question
I don't even remember how the green eye works. When it was green it was supposed to be charged, right? I seem to recall back in the '90s seeing the green eye looking OK but the battery could still be dead.

Re: Battery Question
Green is good ... black would mean recharge ... grey/white means dead ... however not a very reliable system.
Here's a period video to watch:
Note the factory correct decals on the battery !
