Post Pictures from back in the day.
I guess this would be photo history ? I'd like to see period pictures of Third Gens..... even if you don't have the car.

Re: Post Pictures from back in the day.
My 1986 TA back in the day before the GTAs where invented. most had a silly red tape above the black ground effects or a two tone (black with gold ground effects or black with silver ground effects) I thought that it would look better with all black.. seems like GM agreed with me and the next year the GTA was born. The program manager took off the tape on an 86 and drove it around detroit and got lots of compliments. so did I... I dont have the car anymore but bought a black GTA 5 speed TPI to have more power.

I ordered it new February 17, took delivery April 16, 1987 then sold it in September of 1989. This past week I found it again half way across the country & it will be mine by this time next week!

Re: Post Pictures from back in the day.
I'm sorry, but I tried looking closer at the picture to get an idea of the year and I had to look away. The shorts that guys wore in the 80s was scary. That might be why I never wear shorts even to this day!!!!

Re: Post Pictures from back in the day.
I wish I could edit myself out of the one with my 82 LG4 Z28 but its the only photo I have of it. That one was taken 26 years ago. The one of my 91 RS I posted in other threads but I included it here too. Unfortunately I can't find any of my red 84 L69 H.O Z28 but it looked like Scott's 82. I know its not a 3rd generation car but I also included one of my 69 Z28 that I wish I had never sold.

And yes it does have orange in it to my eye...... you can see the red stripes in flag in the forground.... and they show up as red. Lighting does change it a bit.

Re: Post Pictures from back in the day.
My employer at the time sent me to skid school at Mosport near Toronto. Best part was the end of the day when instructor took us out on the race track for 10 laps. Instead of driving the school-supplied Sunbird, I gladly signed the waiver to take my 3 month old 5 speed TPI Formula out there.

Re: Post Pictures from back in the day.
Hopefully this will go through, This is a picture of my '91 RS That I bought new in January 1991, The picture was taken on Memorial day weekend 1991 at my Grandma's house in Staten Island NY. My brother and I drove there for the long weekend from Wisconsin. where the RS got 29mpg. it was loaded with all options including Leather, CD player, 5.0 EFI and 5-speed. The following year I took it to the Grand canyon and got the highest of 31 mpg.. pretty good for a V8

This is a pretty blurry pic, but it's from 1983 when my car had about 150 miles on it. I still have the bowling ***** in storage!

Car new had RONAL R9 rims on it. Dealership would never admit to what happened to the original wheels. I made them warranty the wheels before I would buy the car.

I dug up this old photo of me and my buddy with our 91 Camaros. We bought them at the exact same time. His was an automatic and mine was a stick. I regretted not checking the order box for the 16" wheels though like he did.

Re: Post Pictures from back in the day.
This is a page from a scrapbook I had back in the day. January 1992. I was a senior in high school. I sold my 1983 Camaro and bought a used 1987 Camaro.
The '87 was purchased from a Chevy dealer that is still around, Hertrich Chevrolet, though they are no longer at this location in Federalsburg Maryland. This particular dealership probably had no more than 30 or 40 new cars in stock at any given time. That's a burgandy 1992 Chevy Lumina sitting next to the '87 Camaro, and also pictured are a few Geo Storm's and Geo Prism.

Re: Post Pictures from back in the day.
6/26/89. The day I took delivery of my '89 IROC-Z. This is a dealer photo they'd do with all new car deliveries. Note the the front license plate bracket. I had EXPLICIT instructions to NOT drill the grill surround for a plate. The replacement part has already been ordered from the parts dept as this pic is being snapped.
That '89 Ford Probe behind me was my future wife's, who drove me to the dealer. The Probe replaced her '84 Firebird, which was stolen on the same day she made her last payment on it.

Re: Post Pictures from back in the day.
Had to scan these in, going back a ways!
This was back in high school, 2001-ish. My first (registered) car. 84 Z28 H.O. 5 speed. Swapped in a 350, WC T5, 3:08 posi rear, and changed over the entire brown vinyl (yeah really) interior to black. Learned how to work on cars on this thing. This was in the Chiltons/Haynes days... didn't know about forums! Was rear ended stopped for a school bus leaving school one day
You can see the numbers from the drags on the windshield

Those morons at the dealership service the 97% of the population that is oblivious to the fact that motoring is not just transportation, but fun. The sales department should have ensured the car was PDI's as per instructions.

Attached is the Ad from the dealership I purchased my 88 IROC from in 1996. I bought it in a Chicago snow storm in Jan shortly after graduating college. The notes on the ad are from when I called on the car and salesman's name I bought the car from.
According to the ad it was "TOTALLY MINT". Lower corner of the second image is my car in the ad.
Still have the car today 17 years later.

Thats really cool that you kept the ad that you found your car with. I had my first 87 IROCZ back in 1996. I completely gutted the interior and put a brand new one in it. It was stolen the day after I finished. When I got the car back it had 6" of water in it. Im happy that my current 87 IROC isn't my daily driver.
Re: Post Pictures from back in the day.
Love this thread so much. I too have the tiny Autotrader ad for my car...I used to love biking down to the convenience store each week and getting a pop and a new Autotrader on newsprint, and going right to the Chevy and Ford sections looking for Camaros and Mustangs, then flipping to the classic section in back to look for the same.

puma: You are dating yourself! I remeber the same, Autotrader was delivered to my local corner store every Friday afternoon. And it was regionalized, so you could only search cars that were close. The only way to find a more exotic car from a far away land was to buy a differnent paper, like Old Autos or Hemmings.
