Push button Delco that ISN'T the UT4?
Just wondering what code this radio was... hadn't seen this one.
I've seen the UT4 push button that was recalled... was this the replacement?

So they had two completely different radios with the same code? How the heck does that work?

Yes, they both have the UT4. Both UT4 radios are touch controlled. GM is known to reuse RPO codes - sometimes for very different options. Look at the Y84 on ThirdGens. 1987-1992 it meant the GTA option while 1982-1984 it meant the Special Edition Recaro option.
You'll find the version from your first post in 1988+ GTAs. The UT4 radio was available on many models on the Pontiac side. Depending upon the year, the Pontiac brochures even list both UT4 versions for different models of Pontiacs.

Looks to me that one is for a Camaro and the first post is for 1985 to 1992 firebird, T/A, GTA.

Like Scott said, no. In fact, this is one radio page from the 1986 Pontiac book showing both versions being referenced both as UT4.
One version was common on the early T/As with the option. Sometime around 1988(?), as all 1988+ GTAs I've seen, the other version appeared to become the regular version.

Ive seen them used alot in bonnevilles of that era.I used to pull them but stopped because they would always be stuck in loc mode.Just pulled an earlier stlye UT4 radio from an 85 Fiero.It powers up but the pushbuttons need to be replaced

The Top UTR radio (with the display to the left) actually reminds me of my 1990 Riviera with the BOSE. The differences are obvious, No EQ (common on BOSE Radios not to have the EQ for some reason) Actually my radio did not have balance either, only Fade. THis thing sounded like the Bomb... It sold me on BOSE radios.
Sorry for the crappy pic, it is the best I have, the Camera was a 1 Megapixel, which was huge for when I took the picture...
The Radio with the display to the RIGHT would be the early version of the UT4,
The radio with the display on the left top Should be the LATER version, (that has the Digital Volume level showing). GM pretty much changed over, even my Factory CD player from 1989 looks like this...
I think they pretty much kept this style for the Din and a half size radios until around the mid 1990's... Even My 1995 Riviera (second picture) had the same basic appearing radio with the same display (it was moved back to the right side).
I suspect that this had to do with the new CD player that was going to be released. They probably waned to use the same pieces and parts for all radios (as much as possible) and since they were going to start offering a CD Player, they might as well 1) update the look and 2) make as many parts similar as possible. I think just about all of the Amplifiers from these radios from this generation can be removed and simply plugged into the other.
Remember the component radios like they had in some of the Sunbirds, and the Buick Regals back in the 1990's? Also the Full size trucks around the same time? As it turns out I think the innards of the radios are the same as the regular din & a half. Obviously the faceplate is different, but you might be able to harvest pieces and parts like, cassette players, CD players and some of the boards from them. Even if you needed a display, you should be able to use one of those displays, if you wanted to solder it on... Be a chore, but I think doable with some effort.

My 93 Cadillac had the same UT4 that was DOA when I bought it!
Replaced with a Delco am-fm-cd unit out of a Pontiac.
