I know, I used to have a friend that had unlimited access but I lost contact.

It has It has 65,000 on the odometer but I don't know if is 65 or 165.

Well it might be worth while to you to pay and get one. If you do, let me know if the miles are close or not. I did a carfax on my Camaro, but I am still not sure if the miles are correct because if the car doesn't go to a certified car dealer for repairs, the miles never get logged. So long story short, if my car wasn't logged for 5-6 years, and the speedometer was turned back, I don't know what it has on it.

 

Did anybody else notice there is not a B4Z code listed?

 

It is a 1989.

B4Z ended after '87. From '88 to '90 an IROC-Z had a Z28 code.

I'm not sure on the year but the carfax and other companies only go back a certain amount of years for mileage and accident reporting. You can try a service dept at a chevy dealer to see reported miles years ago if they serviced at the dealer. I'm a finance mgr at a dealer and ran a carfax on one of my 87's and it only went back to 2000 I think.

And the car is showing 69,700, the guys at the smog inspection messed up and typed 185,xxx

 

Mistakes are made on older cars all the time, it's just assumed that no 30 year old car could possibly have less than 100k on it regardless of condition. I had my oil changed at a neighborhood quik lube last year and he entered 114k instead of 14k. I caught it while paying and was told the owner would have to change the entry in their system and he was not in. It took several calls that day but eventually I was able to pick up a corrected receipt for my records. I only hope that their data does not make it into the "database" but if it does I have my receipt copies to back up my mileage. By the way my carfax goes back to June '89 the month my car was first sold and registered. Post some pics of your engine bay and interior, this will help the membership to establish your mileage to some degree.

 

I would guess the only time that vehicle mileage would make it into a govt. database would be for things like mileage recorded at the time of state inspections, title transfers, yearly state registrations... and possibly through insurance companies. I know in my state I'm required to enter the mileage each year for registration. I can't imagine an oil change shop would be required to log that information anywhere official other than for their own records.

I wonder if you can find out the title, inspection and registration history as it pertains to yearly mileage recorded for your car through a local state DMV center? That's where I'd start if I was curious about actual mileage.

I got a Vehicle*History*Report from the DMV and it has no major information that can help me.

 

Yup, my carfax shows service visits to the Chevy dealer as well local oil change centers.
