First 1985 California IROCZ with T-Tops in black located.

Here is a car that is the real deal that I located in Livingston, California. The first black 1985 T-Top California Irocz I have found. Maybe somebody here is close enough to go buy it. I'm in Washington and it is too far away or I would buy it myself. Good luck.

Your right about that!

The only thing going for it is that it has the RPOs that are only on a 1C5 California IROCZ . When I asked the seller he said it has 1C5, Z5V, B4Z, and the CC1 for T-Tops. It was made during the 3rd week of May which is when they all were made according to the the radiator support tag. The Vin# ended with a 6100 which could have been the start of a run of black T-Tops. The first black hardtop I located the Vin# ended with 4100 which might have been the first hardtop black one made since that is the lowest Vin# located to date for any California IROC of the 20 Vin# I have located. This one could possibly be the first black T-Top made. I have only located 4 black California Irocs to date and this is the only T-Top so far. Of these 4 black ones 2 have been totaled. It needs a lot, but it is genuine.

Goes to show, even a rare car can go down a bad road with owners who make bad decisions.

Re: First 1985 California IROCZ with T-Tops in black located.

The seller had already purchased a rear spoiler he was going to put on the car. He didn't know what he even had. I asked him if there were any holes drilled and filled where a spoiler had previously been removed. He looked and was surprised that there were no previous holes. I told him to hold off on putting the spoiler on and let the new owner decide if he chooses to do so. He also looked on the driver door for me and saw that it came with the 16 inch IROCZ wheels and not the Z28s that are currently on it. Notice it has fog lights too RPO T96 that a Z28 couldn't be ordered with till 1986.
I started to think that Gm might have never made a black T-Top in this 1C5 Camaro ,but here it is. One final thing I had him check was the original color on the RPOs and it was #19 so it was originally black and not a red one with a repaint.
Rough, rough, rough.

did he mention what he's asking? I didn't see a price. ....if he were closer I may be interested. Always loved the California Irocs. I don't typically get into the whole "save a car" thing, but that's one I'd like to see around.

It looks save-able, - as long as it is rust free.

The guy threw out a price of $3,500. That was after I asked all kinds of questions about the car to try and verify what I thought it was. I should have asked him what he wanted for it before asking any other questions!

My 1985 Z-28 TPI and 1986 IROC-Z TPI has alternator on passenger side AC compressor on driver side. They may have put them both ways.

Looks like a decent deal to me. Besides the rarity of that specific model, it's black on black which is a favorite of mine. And looks solid too.

Yup seen MANY 82-84 Recaros, '84 15th ann's, and even a '89 TTA in junk yards or come through my hands in HORRIBLE shape due to bad owners.

Heck just SADLY parted out and crushed a '91 GTA PEP car that was trashed by previous owner who had it impounded and now in prison.

Re: First 1985 California IROCZ with T-Tops in black located.

Serpentine setups weren't used until 1988...someone has added that.

No kidding, though, there's a lot wrong with the car, starting with the obvious severe water intrusion in the interior. Looks like it's full of mold, and I'd almost guarantee those floors are rotted to almost nothing.

"Bill of Sale"...in other words, he doesn't even have the title. I'd run away from this one.

It's a little bit farther for me.

Too bad the license plate is hidden to do a quick smog history check. Regardless, it appears that it wouldn't pass visual anyway. Yes, it'll take some work just to get it registered (owner told me it's not registered but non-op'ed).

I've noticed a lot of 80's vintage cars on CL won't pass or haven't had an inspection performed in years.

Re: First 1985 California IROCZ with T-Tops in black located.

Here is an update on this car posted 4 days ago. Now instead of $3500 for the car it has dropped to $1600 and says that $500 is owed for back tabs along with only a bill of sale, instead of a clear title. Buyer beware.

I would need a smog cert, hard top, and title to bother.

I notice, too, he's dropped the interior photos...maybe he figures everyone already knows what mold looks like?

Without a title here in California its a hassle to go through to get the paperwork sorted out. I have done its once and wont do it again. A bill of sale is garbage if this guy isn't the last owner in DMVs system.

Same in Illinois. Someone from a state which isn't as stringent should buy it and title it.

It's not a bad example. Cali rust free car. Great base to work from, and it's the Cali model so kinda rare (albiet probably not super desirable.)

Title situations are killers in California, though. This stinks of the typical California methhead 3rdgen with no title. lol

Yupp and its in the valley. Meth runs rampant out here. I havent really looked at 3rd gen prices in a long while it seems theyve gone up a bit if this thing worth $1500 with only a bill of sale and fees over $500.

Also whats a 'Cali Camaro'?

My understanding is 500 were made. 400 in red, and 100 black. 305 TPI engines, plain hood, no rear spoiler. Limited to California dealerships.

The spelling in that listing is just another reminder that we have cut far too much money from education. Not only is it horribly written, he doesn't seem to care.
