Barrett Jackson 1LE Found

So, you guys remember in January, the Red 350 1LE that sold at BJ.

I was looking at other cars today and found this dealer and here the car is. Quite a tidy profit he is trying to make. He also has a low mile Firehawk.

The Firehawk is how I ended up there. Then I saw the 1LE and it just rang familiar.

Re: Barrett Jackson 1LE Found

Looks like he's just trying to get his money back out of the 1LE? $36,300 plus buyers fees puts him near 40K without transportation. Funny that the car has a Mecum plate on it, unless thats where its headed next?

Or is it possible it already has a new owner & his add on the other site was posted prior to the Scottsdale auction?

Looks like it was just at Mecum last month.

He's barely even owned it for two months.

Re: Barrett Jackson 1LE Found

I am surprised you guys are on the dealer side.

BJ and Mecum are not dealer auctions where cars needing repairs or old cars come from new delaers to be snatched up by wheeler dealers. I would say both represent a retail sale, and even more these days I would say a Premium Retail sale.

Just like you shouldn't buy a car at a dealer expecting to sell a month later for profit, nobody should be buying at BJ or Mecum expecting to be able to sell the car on the open market for more. Both of these auction attract what you hope will find you ad for the classic, rare muscle car. A large group of people with money ready to spend who are interested in what you have to sell.

I think this guy is smoking crack for what he is trying to do.

He's not going to make much if anything at all. Don't forget about the buyers premium paid at the auction & probable transportation costs. if he cuts it loose at 40K he breaks even. If he titled it & paid state tax on it (like WI has) he has close to 42K in it.

It's Barett Jackson that made all the money before he ever got it home.
Sure not condoning the price. I wouldn't buy it. just talking numbers.

Re: Barrett Jackson 1LE Found

Agreed.. you can’t profit if you have to register the car/pay sales tax, etc.. Maybe the guy has a dealer plate.. I’ve known people who’s families were in the used car business and they had their own dealer plate and would just buy and sell cars.. They’d drive a car for 4-6 months and sell for small profits.. they always had new cars and just had to pay for a dealer plate.

The guy I bought my first IROC from in high school, his dad was a dealer so he had his own dealer plate. In High School alone (2 years with a license). He had a Monte Carlo SS Aero, 87 IROC 5-Speed, 88 Mustang GT 5-Speed, 87 Grand National, an 89 Mustang Notchback. I think there was a Corvette in there he had for a couple weeks.

never paid sales tax/registration and just bought and sold cars constantly.. Sometimes he’d break even just to get another car he was interested in.. He’d find really cool cars and get them cheap..

this is must be a dealer flip.. That car did seem cheap for what I’ve seen them go for, someone took a gamble I’d say..
