I dropped the ball....

I found this on craigslist, and it was only 60 miles away from me. I talked to the dude yesterday when he listed it, and talked to him again today to make arrangements to get it, and he had just sold it.

1984 Z28
305 HO
T-Tops
92k miles
needs paint
really clean interior, no dash cracks, nice steering wheel
Been in storage for 2.5 years without running
All original other than wheels...and all there

$850

Re: I dropped the ball....

Oh, and NOT rusty. Damn it I should have just told him Id take it yesterday

I'm a painter at a body shop so I could have made it look like a million bucks for probably around a grand. I thought it would have been cool to make it look just like my 82, only have it for a daily driver.

The engine compartment needed a ton of cleaning, painting, etc

Yep....this 86 IROC with 51k miles. Tuned Port car. He has the original wheels, too. Needs a headliner and the shifter linkage is messed up. Trying to get a price on it........he has a whopping $1,500 in it!! Someone traded him this for a 99 Grand Prix GTP that he only had $1,500 into....what a deal there, too! It looks pretty good in the pic

I do the same thing. His IROC is not listed, but I'm still trying to get a number out of him

i really don’t see anything great about 84. Looks like it would be a money pit.

Re: I dropped the ball....

These cars are only money pits if you can't work on them yourself or if you are trying to build a pristine example. Using one as a daily driver is a totally different ball game. I daily drive an 88 IROC in similar condition to the '84 in the OP and it's been rock solid and not cost me a fortune. I had another 88 IROC a few years ago that had tons of small nagging issues that would come up. It was annoying, but not expensive to fix. I put over 20k miles on my old '91 TA in 2 years. I rebuilt the engine and swapped to a 5 speed on that car and it took good care of me. I used all used stuff and junkyard parts and it was not expensive, I had $3500 in the whole car.

I could go on and on, I've daily driven thirdgens in spring/summer/fall since the late 90s. None of them have been money pits. It comes down to mechanical ability and making good choices.

Re: I dropped the ball....

I would love to find a car like this to daily drive. One i wouldn't be scared to park at walmart. Preferably 5spd. Thanks to Barret Jackson though every $3000 beater around here is now commanding top dollar prices. C4s are going for cheaper, I've been looking at them hard lately.

There is something to be said about a car that is nice enough to drive, but not so nice you are afraid to drive it. I miss my '92, purple, 'vert. It had about 125K miles and basically was my daily driver for a summer. Drove it to work, drove it to the store and wiped it down and drove it to cruise night.

Yep, I'm with you guys.. Just last weekend, my gf wanted to get the camaro out of the garage and drive it to a Sunday afternoon concert at a church. I replied with "have you ever seen me leave my car unattended in a parking lot?" Lol. Wasnt happening. I'd love to have one that I could, though....
